Trading my 8 for 7
So recently I purchased a Schecter Hellraiser Special C-8 and after replacing the low string with a thicker (.8 I believe) string, I am still not completely satisfied with the tone of the low string. I have decided that I have no use for the 8th string and will trade a guy on craigslist for a 7 string. Heres the offer: Samick SKT-777 and a Bugera 333XL head. I think I may keep the head if I like it but otherwise sell it and replace the pickups in the samick. Would high quality pickups in the cheap guitar be worth it? Perhaps I'm an idiot for even thinking about this trade, so please provide your input.

Before you trade make sure to try other string sizes maybe go for a high G or A or get a bigger string like a 90. EQ quite a bit as well it could also be the pickups the 808's seem to have a muddy low end. Don't rush into decisions spend some more time with it.

Before you trade it, definitely try heavier gauges. Another tip is if you have an EQ pedal then try to back off on the frequencies 200 hz and below. If not try increasing mids and lowering the bass knobs on your amplifier

Keep the Hellraiser, much nicer than a Samick IMO.
You could try the 18 volt mod for the EMG's. I did it in my Damien and it sounds much better. It clears things up and adds a bit more bite to the low end. 18 Volt Mod "By the way, melted binding looks like marshmallow. But it really doesn't taste like it." - MapleLeaf97 |

local NZ guitar forum I'm on has a word filter for shit (it replaced it to 'sammick')
I wouldnt trade. I don't like either brands that much but Schecter > Sammick by far. proudly endorsed by B.C Rich Guitars, Line 6 Amplification, Seymour Duncan Pickups, MacBeth Shoes, Ultimate Ears, In Tune Guitar Picks and Matrix Amplification www.savingxgrace.com www.facebook.com/indreadresponse |

I was under the impression that anything higher than 0.006 would snap on the 27" scale. Would a 0.007 from o4plus work? It seems that you can't buy any 0.0059's because there is no add to cart button.
Also, should I file the nut and possibly bridge in to accommodate for the size of 0.080? The tension is pretty good with that string, it's just not vibrating nearly enough as it seems it should. |

Also, if I had the guy throw in an LTD F207 to the deal would that be worth it?

Did you try putting a balanced set of new strings on this guitar or just a heavier F# string? Try 8,11,14,22,30,38,46,54 and tune the guitar to A Standard. @zeaoth I just shoved the damn p/u into the cavity. I forced that shit. It works. @DTo8 Does every 8strings buzzes on the low strings? @MatthewLeisher I'd take a dump on a 6505 if the Axe FX asked me to. |

I'm currently waiting on a shipment of 0.007 and 0.008 strings to try the high A tuning. I just replaced the heavier F# string and filed the nut a bit for it to fit. Should I have replaced all of the strings?
