You can coil tap just about any 8 string humbucker, but afaik, you'd have to go custom for single coils on an 8.

Normally when someone says "one pickup" we do mean one humbucker so it's not necessarily wrong and I don't think any guitar has A singlecoil and nothing else

Well, you can try a single coil 8 string lap steel, otherwise it's just custom.

Hi,

I was also looking for 8-string single coil pickups, but there where no stock solutions. For a real 8-string single coil pickup you have to go the custom shop way or d.i.y.

You can also tweak your humbucker PUs to get a close-to-single-coil sound. I did this to my Agile Intrepid a few months ago:

Agile Intrepid 828 Cepheus Pickups Mod :: split, passive mods, active buffer mods ...

At the moment I have 4 sounds out of my 2 cepheus pickups:
- bridge humbucker (standard bridge pu)
- telecaster twang style (the inner coils of both pu in serial)
- neck single coil (with humbucking effect for AC hum)
- combination of bridge humbucker and neck single coil

This may not be a true single coil but it goes a long way in that direction and it costs only about 10 $ / €. And perhaps the same amount of hours to understand the technical background.

As you can see I have no use for the standard neck humbucker but of course it would be still available to set up.

Since a few weeks I'm using a POD HD 500, maybe I should add some new sound samples. Espacially the "single coil" setup enables some piezo-like sounds on the POD...
