Seriously guys, don't feed the trolls. Even if he wasn't intentionally trolling how about we focus on the OPs questions instead

How about I take the liberty to steer it back to the OP then?

What guitars are you looking into? Do you have a list of specs you need to have or are you just looking for a more budget model to test the water?

I think the "why not buy a bass" question is a very sore question on this forum. Especially because it is most of the time worded rather rudely and people here are used to getting harassed to breaking guitar norms.

Anyway, a quick youtube search of "agile 9 string" results in a whole page or more of people with 9 strings tuned to low low C#

and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0dja...eature=channel are the clearest examples of the full range of the 9 string on youtube at the moment.

Man, I'd say go for it. For 650$ you are getting a very unique guitar for not a lot of investment. Plus, 9 strings don't pop up around here all to often so a resale, if need be, would be rather painless. my two cents.

yeah, i second that.
agile 9s are a good, functional piece of gear and i don't think you'll find a 30"9 for less than that.
i have personally found that left-hand muting gets trickier , fwiw.

Cheers to anyone that can manage 9 strings. I've been honing my 8 string technique for a couple years now and I'm still learning to contain unwanted string noise.

OK. Most of you have proven who's the narrow minded one.

In a way I was trying to help in the first place. Raise a serious question if a 9-string is really necessary since mustache79 already owns an 8-string. If it's for studio work, tune it lower and do your thing sparing the extra cash for something else. I doubt a 9-string is really helping because it'd be so inconvenient just as ViolaceousVerdance mentioned.
Then again, I'm open to understand the reason for such an ERG, but instead of taking the time and explaining the reason for the extra string, you had to attack and make sarcastic comments, Heck, 4 of you even took the time to lower my reputation, thank you for that. As if I harmed anyone within 3 posts, or even insulted somebody. Read my posts again and don't try to translate them the way you want. Internet tone and cr@p.
You can say I went off topic, but when you open a thread with a topic "Low C# 9 string?" the content can be of that low 9th string! Call me a troll, an illiterate musician (even though I have an MA in music), or a douche, but my intentions/actions weren't bad. Where some of yours actually were

^Well, you were kinda trolly in your posts. And you can't go walking into a room full of Republicans with an "I <3 Obama" shirt and not expect to take a few arrows. That's basically what you did making those comments on an ERG forum. And if you have an MA in music, you should have phrased your question with a little more background. You can't just come in and expect to have a reasonable debate by making an out of context inflammatory remark like you initially did. But I wouldn't sweat the negative rep. It's not like it matters in real life.

Please put a stop to this so we can get back to the topic: Stringing up for low C.
The OP was clearly asking about this.

While it is of course ok to be skeptical about the merits of going this low, it should've been in a thread on it's own, and maybe not starting off by stating we should put more emphasis to our arrangements instead of tuning low - as I said earlier, this is afterall the extended range section..

van Sinn..
plays progressive metal, jazz/rock fusion and Hindu-derived ambiance
says, stop second guessing the past, keep pushing, or risk getting left behind
opposes any kind of mind control, has no tv - but has a fully functional pineal gland
