They sound pretty good, actually. I like them much better than the EMG808s in the standard RG2228. However, I have a feeling that I'd like the new DiMarzio PAF 8s even more (as I prefer a bit less gain).

Overall, I'm loving the RG2228A so far...the regular black is a major improvement over the Galaxy Black, IMHO (especially considering that it matches the headstock). As is typical of Prestige guitars, the build quality is near flawless.

Holy shit! Is this that new model, the RG2228A? It sure looks like it' since there is no Galaxy in that black, haha!
Good to hear that you think the Dimarzios sounds better than the EMG's. That means that I can find cheaper 8-strings than the ones with EMG's to make an 8-string sound good. SHNGD, man! Have fun!

I want D-Activators in my RG2228 and I have since I bought it in 2008.

Actually, I'd go with DiMarzio PAF8s for the RGA8. PAFs work so well with mahogany IMHO. I loved the PAF/mahogany combo in my APEX1...great tone.
