Those guitars never do anything for me, but the headstock is especially hideous on that one because of the ugliest wood on the face of the earth.

I think that was the main attraction at this years London Guitar Show. So many people were hovering over the blackmachine stand. I got the chance to play the other 8 string he made. Not really to my tastes, but sounded good.

It's also a seven string, and the headstock is the same as the other one.

I should've specified I hate that type of wood that was on the headstock, zebrawood or whatever, it looks terrible.

^that six looks cool too, I like this one a lot, it's totally my type of axe:

Chris, I've played it I've also played another 8 made to similar specs as the second one you posted, but with EMG's. It sounded good, but the 30" scale is unmanageable for a guitar.

The 884 on the other hand is the most amazing guitar I've had the priviledge to play. First off it looks far better in person than in the pictures and the arm contour may look odd as it cuts the binding but it makes a big difference to playing comfort. The 25.5 to 28" scale makes it a breeze to play and the notes are clear even in complex chords played with face melting distortion. It was running thorugh a Diezel Herbert after all! I'm totally convinced by the principals of fanned frets for extreme instruments like that now, and they really do make an amazing difference to note clarity. Both the 8's were fitted with EMG 45DC pickups and run through the same amp and the difference was astounding. The notes just jump out at you on the 884.

Seriously, after playing that I want fanned frets and EMG 45DC's on any 8 string I get. It's not too badly price either, in it's home market. £2300 for this, £1400 for a UV777PBK or £2200 for a PRS Custom 24 or Mcarty. Which would you rather have?

I'd rather have those prices "$" instead of "£" in front of them.

What's the price on the sevens? I'm thinking around $2500 usd, plus absurd shipping? I've emailed them in the past, but I completely forget what they quoted me.

2200 Pounds = 4,130$ So... thats pretty much conklin territory right there. as much as i like them blackmachines, since they come to that price, i WOULD just save an extra 800$ and get a conklin.

Yeah, I wished the UK prices were more like the US, but that's just a fact of life here.

Chris, the 7's start at £1700 and the 30" 8 string is £2000. The £2300 price for the 884 comes straight from Doug when I tried out the 884 at the London Guitar Show. He recons it's about £300 for fanned frets and he'll do them on 7's too.

Haha! I have played the straight-fretted one! It belongs to the Sikth roady, and when i met the band in Glasgow i was talking to Dan and Pin about where the fuck Pin's Blackmachine 7 had gone and one thing led to another and i was on stage as they were packing up playing this fucker of an 8-string through Dan's Diezel VH4 and the P.A.
Was fucking awesome.
If i won the lottery, id take a Blackmachine, and definitely over a Conklin. Doesnt have that gay "knobble" round the jack and they are so thin, but sound huge. Lundgrens suit it perfectly!
