Chris, I've played it
I've also played another 8 made to similar specs as the second one you posted, but with EMG's. It sounded good, but the 30" scale is unmanageable for a guitar. The 884 on the other hand is the most amazing guitar I've had the priviledge to play. First off it looks far better in person than in the pictures and the arm contour may look odd as it cuts the binding but it makes a big difference to playing comfort. The 25.5 to 28" scale makes it a breeze to play and the notes are clear even in complex chords played with face melting distortion. It was running thorugh a Diezel Herbert after all! I'm totally convinced by the principals of fanned frets for extreme instruments like that now, and they really do make an amazing difference to note clarity. Both the 8's were fitted with EMG 45DC pickups and run through the same amp and the difference was astounding. The notes just jump out at you on the 884.Seriously, after playing that I want fanned frets and EMG 45DC's on any 8 string I get. It's not too badly price either, in it's home market. £2300 for this, £1400 for a UV777PBK or £2200 for a PRS Custom 24 or Mcarty. Which would you rather have? |

2200 Pounds = 4,130$ So... thats pretty much conklin territory right there. as much as i like them blackmachines, since they come to that price, i WOULD just save an extra 800$ and get a conklin.
