Omen 8-Good First 8?

I have an opportunity to get one of these for even cheaper than the low price it already is. Do you think for someone looking to simply expand their range, that this would be a good guitar? Reasons why or why not are greatly appreciated

All I've owned that's similar is an Omen-7, but it was a great guitar for the price. It was beat to shit and wouldn't stop working, and was very agreeable with setups etc. If the 8 version is like it, I'd go for it if the price is right.

Praise the sun!

My first electric was an Omen-6 and I had just about the same results. It's beat to hell but it's still playing fine.

I wouldn't bother unless you really have super low expectations regarding playability and your guitars actually staying in tune. I'd save up for a bit longer and get at least a 2011 Ibanez RGA8 at a minimum. The locking bridge and nut system works great and the neck is real nice. All it really needs is a pickup swap.

I completely disagree.

A Damien Elite 8 or Agile 8 are both cheaper than the Ibanez with better stock pickups and comparable (some may say better) build quality. The omen 8 is fine for any beginner. If you're a seasoned player it may likely be inferior to what you are used to but otherwise it is a completely useable and decent guitar. The pickups suck in it but for half the price of an RGA at least you could afford to swap pickups. If you want to try the best 8 you can find for well under 500$ the omen is the way to go. If you can swing a bit more try the Damien elite or an agile.

Yeah, the ibanez is not really in it for me. I have a wasburn wm series
(Not the USA custom lol). What is the quality in comparison to that? I figured some of you guys have tried these. And I've also tried some omen 6ers at a local shop, and they felt super solid.

Good insight on this guitar.
I've been on the fence of getting one myself.
I'd like to save for and agile as well, but im still fresh in guitaring.
But regardless, its not like im not going to like the extra range.
I work just fine with a 7 (even though all my standard 6 friends are like WTF 7?!?!?!)

Though, correct me, but isnt the scale on the omen 8 26.5, and the damien is only 25.5?
I'm probly wrong, but i swear i saw that somewhere.

I like my guitar tone like I like my women, perfect rounded bottom end, cut in the mid section, heavy on the top end, and super tight.

I believe all schecter 8's have the 26.5" scale length. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

All schecter 8s are 26.5" scale.
The omen 8 is alot like the omen 6/7. They have cheaper hardware, woods, and pickups and therefore can be sold cheaper. Are they terrible? No. Are they good for beginners who are tight on cash? Absolutely. The necks will be playable for anyone who likes schecter 7 string necks and the price won't kill you. There are better options but this'll do to get you started.

I recently purchased an Omen 8 and it is satisfactory. My main gripe of course is the pickups. But for the money I am definitely pleased.

Interested in one of these as well, primarily to see if I like playing on an 8 or not. For $400, its hard to resist. Of course, I'd opt for the walnut finish.

Thanks rekab,
I'd also go for the walnut finish.

Also, anyone that has one, what's so bad about the pickups?
And are the sized for emg's?

Well any first 8 is a good 8 in that you've made the right decision...

Now let's get down to details. Yes. I say do it if you can get it cheap and are interested in checking out ERGs. The worst that can happen is you use the extra range less than you use the rest.

Slowly but surely you figure out what *you* want to do with it. Also, an Omen7 was almost my first 7.

I was thinking about posting a thread like this too.

The Walnut finish Omen 8 looks sick and is so cheap that its tempting me to jump right from a 6 to an 8 haha.I have an old Schecter 006 elite and it's awesome, so no complaints with Schecter quality.

I'm debating whether to get the $500 Agile Pendulum 72527 or the Schecter Omen 8 this summer haha.

....

OH Imagine how cool this would be!

a Schecter 008

I had the Omen-7. Thing was ....ing beast. You could not knock that thing out of tune if you tried. Lemme put it like this it was dropped on HARD TILE flooring. Neck was still solid as a rock on there, and the tuning barely changed. If its anything like the Omen-7 GET IT. I regret ever selling mine. For the price point it can not be beat.

If You're selling a Gibson Explorer PM Me!

Especially passive

The only affordable passives that will fit without any other mods would be EMG-40HZ's.

The new Dimarzio Dactivator 8 is out this month I believe. It will just require a set of pickup rings from fretsonthenet.com ($16 or so)

No clue, I've never even seen one let alone heard one. The active it's based on is the 40CS which is a good pickup.

i have an omen 8. its a good solid inexpensive guitar. i got it mainly so i can experiment and see if its really for me and i love it. time to upgrade! think of the omen 8 as the first step in a nice long career of extended rangeness! :P

Mine arived today. it is a super nice guitar, the neck isn't baseball bat like atall. the only problems i have with it are the heel, the stock strings and the pick up switch placement. the pick ups arnt fantastic but they are livable. The walnut Satin finish is beautiful.
