The new .008 is tuned at this moment to F#4 at 30".It has a beautiful bell-like ring and I can stretch the string a 1/4" left or right with no effect of the tuning. Not too bad for 30". I am also testing the latest .007. The latest .006 is at a flexible B flat 4 at 25.5" i am sorry about posting so much,I guess I should wait until I get the chart completed. Should we have a dedicated thread to plain steel strings for ERG?

Also what gauges would i need for the G3 and B3 to maintain the same sort of feel? |

.007 for E4 or .008 for more ridigity.I use an .007 for E flat 4 at 34" and a .009 for bflat 4. I am sure you have a few choices.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | by the sounds of things, and judging by the strings I've tried, the 7's and 8's will be the most useful of Garry's strings to most people, both for high A at 25.5" and e at 30". Any idea what the retail price will be, Garry? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Anyone weighed their Garry Goodman strings on a good analytical balance, yet? They seem a lot more dense than plain steel D'addarios. I'm going to say go for an .007" E4, then maybe use D'addarios .010" and .013" or so, unless you like a nice tough G, like the ones that come in packs. You could probably go .022" for the D, .030" or .032" for the A, .042" or .044" on the E, .056" for the B, and something like .072" or .074" for the F#. But I'm more or less pulling those out of my ass. I'm going by the calculated tension for each, in reality, these strings will feel bendier because of the extra scale length. |

Ok, first the .008 is now tuned to G4@30" with plenty of flexibility. The new .007 is 40,000 p.s.i. higher in tensile strength than the ones I've sent to everyone. The average single string is,what,$1.25 U.S.? And you used to get two .007's in an envelope. These may retail for more, since they last longer.Of course anyone who requested samples will receive a discount. The .006 is doing a great job at 25.5" as an A4 as well. We'll have wound strings in the next month .I will put you in direct contact with the string company.Of course, I will also have a bunch of them. Quote:
