Iron Maiden
Clive Burr > Nicko McBrain
I'm currently listening to Number of the Beast with a good Scotch, a light to moderate buzz, and the speakers cranked. Clive is just the fucking man! He does all these cool little accents on the snare and hat, as well as all these bombastic tom roles out of nowhere. There is always a ton of stuff going on. I'm amazed to find out how much he helped define the sound of the band for those first three albums. Nicko is just boring in comparison.

I agree Clive was awesome on those albums however, my favorite Maiden albums have always been Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son.

Nothing against Clive, but Niko IS Maiden, imo.
Seventh Son = Last, and best, real Maiden album. It's Maiden's AJFA. |

I certainly wouldn't have described Nicko as boring... They're both great drummers.
Clive may have been a big part of the band's early sound, but it's hard to imagine him playing the proggier material, such as 'Seventh Son...' or 'Brave New World' (the latter of which features some incredible drumming). |

, every maiden album up to 7th son they continued to evolve and push the envelope. 7th son is their crowning achievment in my eyes. they just started to stagnate after that. btw "infinite dreams" is the most perfect iron maiden song ever recorded. |

Not the first time I've heard that said. I think Clive is an amazing drummer, definitely.
But, Nicko has the face... I dunno, it's a tossup. |

Nicko can't keep time for crap. Once they got rid of the good producer his time is all over the place. The last few Maiden albums have been so sloppy on the drums it's embarassing.
So, yes... Clive > Nicko ..and Killers > all other Maiden LPs.
...that the play is the tragedy, "Man"

I honestly like them both, for different reasons. Two great drummers, with very individual styles.
