![]() | DFHS and Sonar Okay, so some of you know I've been bitching about DFHS in Sonar (most notably the problem with the VST adaptor and how drums sit on the tracks). To summarize the problem(s), the drums bleed through channels on stereo tracks, most notably the snare on the bass drum and RT 1 on the snare channel. The bass drum comes through mostly on the left side side. The suggested remedy was to create mono buses for each of the stereo outs and pan them left and right. The problem with this is that it doesn't sound that much different from the problem in the first place (and it doesn't remedy some of the bleed through problems). Finally, after a shitload of tweaking, I think the workaround is this. Part 1: Do create the mono busses as suggested, but pan the bass drums and snare channels at 30% left and right and the floor toms, OH and AMB subs at 20%. To compensate for the loud RT1, go into the subpad for RT1 in the plug-in and reduce the volume by about 20%. Part 2: Create a stereo snare bus, stereo bassdrum bus, stereo toms bus, and stereo cymbals bus. Route the individual mono busses into the stereo busses. Now you can use EQ, compression and reverb. To do it before this step will greatly increase the amount of CPU usage. Also, I don't recommend using too many insert or send effects on individual drums -- they don't seem to have much effect. Once you have sub-mixes for all of the drums, it's very easy to use insert effects and send effects on the subs. Anyway, just thought I'd share with other Sonar users. |

![]() | The bleeding is intentional. It's the whole purpose of the software in the first place. If you want to minimize bleeding (usually required for the snare), select the appropriate microphone, and turn down the source(s) that are bleeding into that mic. ie Turn down the snare in all the other mics...turning down the snare at the snare source pad will still sound crappy because bleed will not be affected. Adjusting the levels of the mics using busses in sonar will keep the same relative bleed to true source ratio, so mono busses will not solve the problem either. It really helps to read the manual again after you've played around and encountered problems. You should download the updated one from the site...unless you're a pirate. |

![]() | No, this is not intentional. It's a problem between the VSTwrapper and how it is implemented in DXI. I'm not talking about the ambient bleed in the plug-in itself. I'm talking about an obnoxious bleed where drums are louder than they should be and are not in the right place in the stereo spectrum. I have the updated version. I've read the manual and I've posted on the Toontrack forum. The solution they recommended was the same solution I posted above as "the suggested remedy". Believe me, I've tried everything. I'm just reporting back, as a Sonar user, what seems to work the best for me. If you are using a VST host, you haven't experienced the problem I am describing. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Just a question - I use sonar 4 and I'll be getting EZ drummer when I get my computer fixed. Do you reckon I'll encounter the same problems or will it be ok with EZX? |

![]() | I don't know. You might do a little research first, see if there is a downloadable tryout. As for Slate's comment, I might check them out once the sample mapping is done. Mapping samples is a hell of a lot of work, especially when there are velocity layers involved. |
