Virgil Donati drum clinic 01/12/2010

I got to see Virgil himself live last night in Launceston,
I am not a full time drummer, but I know enough to appreciate what this guy does, and my mate who came along too is a drummer of nearly 10 years and we were both utterly blown away by Virgil, the guy is a genius.

The show went for 2.5 hours, and featured a number of tracks from various albums from his projects over the years, plus a drum solo that went for over half an hour non stop, mind blowing.

Plus he answered questions and explained a lot of stuff from his magazine in the middle, which was interesting but a total mind .... to me.

Overall amazing night, got to meet Virgil and talk to him for a little bit, he is a man of few words but it was a delight to meet him and get some stuff signed.

Awesome, man! I had the pleasure of seeing a couple of Virgil's clinics back when I was living in LA. He did the whole 40+ minute drum solo thing both times and I'm amazed at how interesting he keeps it. I'm not a drummer at all, and I kind of zone out during extended drum solos most of the time, but not with Virgil. Its kind of funny because he seems really introverted and shy when he talks, but he's such a beast when he's playing the drums. I hope I get to see him play again someday.
