adds thickness to your tone, sounds excellent.

Am I killing this thing by not turning it up?

yes, yes you are

My RC60, as loud as I can crank it, has a sweet spot (never turned it past 4, so...) of 3.5. What I gather, an atteunator keeps the amp at that level, but the cabinet at a lower volume level--essentially giving you the same sweet-spot output at a lower level. You, my friend who hates cars, would benefit much much more from an Atteunator than I would.

zimbloth, just bought a Vader 2x12 Cabinet and the Triple Rectifier. I figure like you said, if I don't like it I can resell it for a same/similar price and get my 5150 or next amp. Win-Win. Atteunator comes in a while!
lol i dare you to turn the master volume to 1

Definitely you want to crank the amp to it's sweet spot (which is usually at blasting levels), and then use a Hot Plate to attenuate down to a moderate level. It won't sound as good as if you did it naturally (it doesn't account for speakers being pushed which is a big factor) but it's still exponentially better than using a 100w Mesa at low volumes. A Mesa should never have the master below 3 or 4, pure blasphemy

Or, you could sell the Mesa 2:100 and buy a Mesa 20/20 poweramp which is far more appropriate for home use (and still VERY loud, you could gig with it) and sounds great at low volumes - and have money leftover too. Although, the 2:100 does get the most out of the Recto preamp so maybe that wouldn't be the best idea

the other answer to this dilema is tell your neighbours/housmates/parents that unless they accept the metal being administered at high volumes daily, you'll fucking kill them

My wife was listening to Tony Braxton and crap like that when we met. She's been to Pantera, Misfits, and countless others including SLAYER.

She just doesn't understand the skillz involved in playing metal. Plus she has no hobbies other than American Idol

Thank GOD construction begins this weekend on a sound proof room in the basement.

GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT? Fitzgibbons 5000 ultra synapse accellerator which allows me to think faster than the masses and phase in and out of the matrix at will.

Rock on man, definitely crank that up. I'd still look into a hotplate, presumably an 8ohm one.
