![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Anyone need a picstory of wax-potting pickups, or should the billion others on the internet suffice? I keep meaning to get around to doing a proper (i.e. clear, not blurry as hell, detailed) picstory of a swap and pot, so since I'm now on break for a month I'm up for doing this. Jeff |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i have an old washrag i lay down on the guitar body to protect it. i even slide it underneath the pickup while it's still in the route, before i slide it out. i don't change strings until they're way dead, so i'm fiddling with pickups all the time with strings still on. the other thing is to make sure you loosen the strings a lot, not just a little bit. and use some padding like a washrag! _actual time_ : prog/math/metal/???? on myspace |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | GuitarNuts.com - Potting Pickups Project Guitar :: Repotting Guitar Pickups – Step by Step Mean Gene's Guitar Chronicles There's tons more. It's a simple process. Here's mine at work. WAX 1. Blocks of paraffin (canning) wax. 2.The bag of pellets is beeswax. ![]() COOKING PICKUPS IN A DOUBLE BOILER (shouldn't technically use an open flame, but I'm Fire Marshall Bill Jr., so whatever. ![]() ![]() FINIS ![]() I used a candy/cooking thermometer to make sure the temperature stayed right about 150 degrees F. Too hot, and it could A) potentially damage the pickups, and B) you won't get as much saturation, because it's not viscous enough. Too cold, and it glorps all over your pickup. ![]() http://www.wolf.org |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You just wipe the wax off as soon as you pull the pickup out. That's why that old shirt looks so uh... jizzworthy. Just dried wax.But as for the pickups, mine look the same as they did before, appearance-wise. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, glorp is to be avoided, as our ultimate goal is djent and when djent and glorp are combined the result is very hard to pronounce. (Djglerpnt. Problem, no?) Jeff |
