umm, i'll trust you guys over tim. i mean, yeah, its tims job, but he also told me an abraxas/emerald set would be way too warm and low end filled to go well in a mahogany guitar, and i heard em in an all mahog les paul, and they were great, so i think his tonal biases sort of come out.

Yeah....I still I'll have to wait till next string change.

I would try to do it leaving the strings on, but that's a few finish scratches too many

Need to place an order...I refuse to enter a GC anymore...

Well, Tim makes pickups for a living, so I'll give some respect and say he probably knows what he's talking about, generally.

But as someone who's A/B'd these things pretty extensively, and after having the benefit of a few hours of play now, I can easily, and unequivocally say, right off the bat, the bass tracking of Alnico 8 is tighter than Alnico 5, and at LEAST as articulate as ceramic... if not even more. I completely disagree with that statement, at least in regards to my pickup. Hell, Steve B at Dimarzio thinks alnico just doesn't work AT ALL in a 7-string pickup, no matter how many times I tell him I think and find it works great.

My low A sounds even more defined and punchy.

And ceramic (anyone who's done an alnico/ceramic swap can attest) sounds "dead" in comparison.

exactly. i think, they know alot about what they do, but sometimes get stuck in certain routines of design, like steve only using ceramics exclusively in 7 string pickups, and tim saying a8 is inarticulate. having heard the duncan crazy 8, its totally suparr-has-articulation

dunno. i definitely ask what they think, especially with the price of bareknuckles, but i dont take it as gospel

still waiting. and i just asked my mom when it comes not to put my box of 5 by the computer lol

i've alredy changed pickups twice with this same set of strings on so i supose they're due for a change

to be fair, they're elixirs so they last for months anyway
