You should've inquired about the 8 strings too. Damnit! Need those. Please see if they can do a set of 8's too.

Offering two different pickup routs for this run will incure additional charges above the difference of the pickups price. I'll most likely end up needing to rout that in at my shop and having the CNC omit the pickup routs will necessitate a change in programming which I'm sure will also cost us. We'll see what the programmer/operator says. We'd be looking at a minimum of $50 additional labor per guitar plus the pickups themselves.

Also keep in mind that the BKP option is for Blackhawk blade pickups only.

Oakland Axe Factory uses Octave4Plus custom strings, Dimarzio and Lace pickups, Hipshot Hardware and Graphtech saddles.

why not just get some funky emg 707 style covers for the customers that want bkps?

The shapes aren't right. A slanted humbucker has a parallelogram shape: the long sides are angled but the short sides are parallel to the strings. The EMG-type covers you can buy are rectangles.

Just for anyone else thinking about it for a 7 string, the Lace > BKP Black Hawk is about $70 difference for the stock pickups. I don't know what the custom order process looks like financially in terms of them doing a run of slanted-spec Black Hawks.

I'd be all over the Black Hawks if they were 8 string. Still unsure about which Lace I would go for if the BHs are not an option.

Tom, sorry to bombard you with so many questions.

But I was wondering if you stained necks (Mahogany)? It would be a darker browny colour and have it stained the same colour as the body wood (Swamp Ash)

And the second question was whether, I could have the back stained but keep the top just a natural oiled or a second staining (A more subtle blonde colouring if you can work something out with using whites).

Thanks

Edit... Nevermind, I think I misunderstood. My apologies. I don't know if you're saying stain the mahogany lighter to match the ash, or stain both darker to match. If it's the first one, I'm pretty sure that won't work, but I could be wrong.
Yeah I meant stain both darker, but stain them with the same colour.

Staining necks will depend a bit on which neck finish is decided in the end, keep in mind that if you oil mahogany it already turns significantly darker. As for your second question that should not be a problem at all, in the last run Tom did some different stains on the back compared to the top so don't worry about that.

There is pretty much no chance of perfectly matching ash to mahogany with a transparent stain but I could surely stain both the body and neck to a darker shade.

Staining or dying the back or front and leaving the rest natural isn't a problem either. I'm hand applying the dye with a rag directly onto bare wood so there will not be a perfect clean seperation between colored and natural wood though. You'll end up with a soft edge like on the Black Friday guitars. Without spraying the color as a tinted lacquer or using a binding it's nearly impossible to get a hard edge between colors.

BKP does not offer 8 string blackhawks right now, but they can do ANY of their other models in slanted.

I like the idea of the blackhawk, but I am not sure if opening this up to all models from BKP is going to work. I would imagine the CNC template is setup for active routes to accommodate the Lace pickups. We will probably need either Tom or Jae to weigh in on this to see if the run will move in this direction.

I am just waiting for Q-Tuner to go back into production anyway....So the active routes are fine with me.

Anyone know what kind of BKPs you would get? I kind of want something that's pretty even across the board.
