Beardley Guitars 8 string build
Hello there! i am a newbie to this forum, so i'll start by saying "Hi, I'm Rick." now that the pleasantries are out of the way.... i'm an amateur luthier, at best, and i specialize mainly in basses. however i am currently building my first guitar and i feel this forum would be a good place to present my guitar build. now on to the good stuff... this project will be a 30" scale length 8 string with a poplar body and a set 5 piece (maple, red oak, curly maple) neck.
here are a few pics of the progress ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() please take a look and let me know your thoughts. in the meantime, check out the basses i have built: Bass Build #1 - TalkBass Forums Beardley Basses #2 - TalkBass Forums 10 String Bass/next bass build idea - TalkBass Forums Beardley Bass #4 - TalkBass Forums Beardley EUB build - TalkBass Forums look Beardley Guitars and Basses on facebook! |

Welcome!
After seeing your builds, I've got to ask... What bridge will you be using?? Best of luck with the build! Is this... guitar?

What does a neck with curly maple (that's what quilts use right?) in it look like? I can't say I've ever seen that before.

Nice builds! I'm curious about one thing though... some of your basses have "ramps" - a feature I've never seen before and am a bit confused as to their purpose. Is it a thumbrest? That's all I can think of, though I may be way off.

Its like a thumbrest that gives you an extended playing area. I have since removed them from those basses though. It was kind of a phase i went through.

hey man, welcome to the forum
looks like a pretty cool build. we're not too far away, if you would ever want to work on a project together, let me know! I like my guitar tone like I like my women, perfect rounded bottom end, cut in the mid section, heavy on the top end, and super tight. Omnium - Atmospheric/Trance/Ambient |

dat natural! What a nice finish...for some reason it harks back to the Ibanez ergodyne nat. finish basses. I'll be really interested to see how the grain pops after your final staining.

I dig the hell out of that body shape, especially for an 8! I think 8 strings should shaped more like a bass than a traditional guitar, it just looks better with that wide fretboard.
please check out my band, ARC! fuisiony-metuhlz. Ultimate Warrior approved. 26 strings. www.myspace.com/officialarc |

![]() yeah, i agree. the "normal" 8s look too boring. this body is one part Fender Jazz Bass, one part Ibanez, and one part Me. I love the offset body shape. |
