Got some more stuff done the past two days... not a lot, but it's progress.

Seven-string:
Applied color and sealer. Here's pics of the various stages of dying it:

1st Step - Base color (blue)

Second Step - Darkened edges (blue from the first step mixed with black and purple)

And finally in the first coats of sanding sealer:

Fretted the six-string single cut last night. Here's a few pics of the process (eventually I'll slow down and really document stuff better).

Checking the fret depth and width prior to pressing frets in:

Nipping the frets to the width of the board.

Frets pressed in, and fret ends dressed. I'll snap a pic of the ends with my real camera eventually (instead of my phone). They're pretty slick.

Filling the ends of the fret slots with wenge dust and super glue.

Are you sure you want to go with a name like "Blackwater?" I wouldn't personally want a guitar with a name identical to that of a notorious mercenary organization, regardless of whatever they're calling themselves now...
That being said, your instruments look great, and I'm dying over that hue of blue on the flametop.

Truthfully, though, the name was more of a simultaneous nod to the Doobie Brothers and Opeth :P

For this one, I'm using some baseplates I had cut out and some stainless strat-style saddles. Not particularly what I had wanted, but finding Wilkinson VS trem saddles has proven to be a pain in the ass...

Made a bit more progress on the 8-string last night. Routed the control cavity, drilled the through-body string holes, and fretted the neck.

The two figured maple guitars are currently hanging in the closet waiting for the lacquer to cure, and the first coats of oil were applied to the FF8 (late) last night. Reaching the home stretch on the prototype builds...

The single cut has about one more week of curing before buffing and polishing and final setup. I'll let you know when it's done. I'd love to have you check it out.

Forgive me if this is silly, but is there no maker's mark or logo on this thing? Also, that's an intense fan. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic work.

Still working on the marking issue...

Yeah, it's a 3" fan. I wanted to go pretty extreme on the prototype just to kind of feel the whole multi-scale thing out a bit. To be completely honest, though, the 3" fan feels perfectly natural. Not awkward at all. In fact, I'm thinking about building myself a guitar eventually with seven strings and a 3.5" fan with the 7th fret straight.
