Aura Guitars #2
I'll be starting this build in a few days, so I figured what the hell, I'll just go ahead and make a thread for it now!
This is for some local talent, by the name of Kyle Harris. He has a solo project called Beautiful Dimensions. He's going to LA in a few months to record his EP with Diego from Volumes, and wants to take this guitar with him. So this guitar is my main priority right now, along with getting #1 and #2 done ASAP. Specs: 8 String Radiant body style Bolt On Neck: 28" Scale length 25 Frets Birdseye Maple 5 piece neck with Walnut laminates Ebony fretboard, blank Body: Swamp Ash Myrtlewood top Ebony Binding Hardware: Black Hipshot Bridge Bare Knuckle Aftermath Pickups Black Hipshot Tuners 1 volume Dunlop black recessed strap locks The mockup: ![]() Here's the neck woods: ![]() The pieces of Swamp Ash: ![]() The Myrtlewood top: ![]() And last, but not least. The gigantic piece of black-ass Ebony: ![]() I'm still waiting on the wrenches for my router, and a small box of the Industrial Erector Set, so I'll be starting the builds as soon as I get those in. The waiting game...

Why not do like Darren and I have and consolidate into a single build thread?

I'm sure if the mods feel that is appropriate they will do so. Until then I'm sure it's fine.
Why doesn't that little bastard Kyle post here? Or does he? Hmmmm. |

I asked for mine, no one found it appropriate besides myself. Darren started his himself too. It makes sense if you're just outlining build progress.

I do it because one big thread can be cluttered and random, in my opinion. When going back to old "mega" threads, I find it hard to find the progress of specific guitars within those 30 or so pages.

I agree with this. I prefer different threads for different builds.
My main setup: Ibanez uv7bk green dot, Engl fireball 60, genz benz g flex 2x12. |

Well this thread has been kinda dead, unfortunately. Al from The HAARP Machine will be here soon supporting Decapitated (!!!!!!!), so his guitar (#2) has priority. But I've been trying to squeeze #3 in when I can. I planed the neck woods the other day, but no pictures. I know, I suck with pictures. BUT, I planed the Swamp Ash for the body today, and took pictures of that. I'll be making some careful cuts on these blanks, to assure I avoid the knots and other nasties in the Ash. I'm gonna go back to working on the neck next, getting it ready to be glued up. I just did this Ash, since I was already planing some for #2.

So does this mean that after you're done with 1, 2, and 3, I'm next?

I swear this guitar fights me every step of the way. Kind of irritating, but it's good for practicing my zen

Well a last minute decision has this guitar going out on tour in November, so priority has shifted to it. It's a bolt on, so it shouldn't be a problem. I worked on getting the body to the right size today, and succeeded. I still need to bind it, route all the cavities and neck pocket, and drill the holes.
Some more of my horrible photography. I really need to get a decent camera soon for documenting my builds. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Finally ripped and cut the Maple for the neck today. Got the Maple and Walnut within 0.5mm of their final dimensions, so all I have to do is some sanding to true the edges up before glueing them. Hopefully I'll have it glued up in the clamps tomorrow.

Quality geetar work man, quality geetar work
![]() I think before you get too big and your prices start rising I may need to pick up one of your guitars, when I don't already have the next 4 months of paychecks spoken for ![]() Someday

Thanks man! I really appreciate the kind words. And I will say that I'll definitely be raising my prices once things get moving, and I get a portfolio going. I'm just doing it cheap now because of the position I'm in, and because I'm "new" to the industry.

![]() Oh well yeah thats a given, all builders eventually raise their prices, especially if its what they plan on doing for any substantial form of living. It's not cheap to build guitars and live a normal life. That being said, how long is your waiting list as of right now? :P |

GLUED!
The piece of maple has some very curious brown coloring to it. I bought the neck from Oregon Wild Woods, and they said that this piece is some very old stock, so I know it's going to be stable. I'm just very anxious to see how it looks once I start shaping it. I am really pleased with the glue lines though, that's for sure. I'll be glueing the headstock on in the next few days hopefully. The real job will be keeping me away from guitars for a little bit... ![]()
