Damn that's some inspiration....I would love to tear my 2228 down to the bone like that and install a 8 custom floyd rose, would be interested in getting rid of the galaxy black paint job too...just scared too
After my RAN invader 8 string V arrives I would consider it...thoughts

You might want to consider getting a new body made, the basswood of the 2228 is really soft and probably would have issues with the floyd posts in the long run from the string tension. I gave up modding the 2228 and had new bodies made, we copied the rg2228 body but to accept the rga8 neck. which I bought as a donor x2, the old 2228 will get a new fretboard and swirl with different emg's, but keeping the fixed bridge. Stripping an old body is a pain as well... Just my thinking as was applied to my project(s).
I wish I never spent the money modding my 2228. Was a huge waste, new bodies are the way to go.

my neighbor and had a couple of sit downs over a few beers discussing the possibilty of he and I collaberating taking on building of a new guitar body for my ibanez 2228...now I'm still up in the air about this, very scared but his wood working is excellant...I'm thinking possibily of V body with the 2228 8 string neck but I have one coming from RAN...anyway i will keep everybody updated

I like my guitar tone like I like my women, perfect rounded bottom end, cut in the mid section, heavy on the top end, and super tight.

Yeah, I agree.... considering the mock-up is an actual ATD, I think he nailed it. I think anyone would have a hard time telling that two different people did them, and being that ATD swirls are the benchmark for swirls for most, this is a homerun....
I think it is one of the more unique swirls Alan has done IMO, very different from the typical cookie cutters.
Damn shame he is going to quit the business.
