Scarf joint cut.

Originally I had planned to use a black veneer in the scarf joint but I noticed when I cut the veneer that it seemed softer than I would like. So for the heck of it I clamped a sample in the vice and wacked it with the hammer. The one side split right on the veneer. The other side the Padauk fractured and the veneer stayed. I am not going to risk a neck with results like that. So I came up with a different idea... you will have to wait and see.

I ended up pinning this one outside the neck so I could line everything up right. The headstock should be one piece...

I came no were near the padauk with the router... I have learned my lessons. I love the look and stability of Padauk. I hate the orange dust, the tear out, and the cantankerous nature when it comes to blades.

The neck sandwich after a bandsaw cut... and a trip through the router.

The scarf decoration will not be anywhere near the volute. At least the lines are lined up... nothing worse than pulling the clamps off to find all your lines are off.

Serious mess.

And a fretboard test.

So the tape is to prevent the titebond from bleeding through. Then we sand it up because you have to freshen up the wood in order for the titebond ot work properly. Then acetone to clean it. And every clamp in the shop.

Well do to overwelming demand this is converted to a 6 string... no longer a 7 string. I needed to get 2 prototypes done in short order so I am converting this one. I have a few customers awaiting this model and need to have something they can test out. Plus I will probably keep this one for a while to loan out.

Trussrod installed. This neck did not need to be trued up as it remained flat even after removing the wood from the back. Padauk is very stable.

Thanks guys.... fittingly I only post the 7 string stuff here.

I post all the 6 string stuff over on PG. I am going to leave this one even though it is now a 6 string.

Should have more work done this weekend. Maybe we can see that scarf shaped.

And a little later the headstock is shaped.

Shaped out the headstock. Originally there was no plan for a headstock plate but I think I might try one...

Always have to get a peak at the set.

Headstock plate picked out.

I guess the template fit. I am in the process of getting some laser templates cut but for now I have to do it the old fashion way.

Neck pocket routed. I really wanted to get the neck humbucker routed and set the neck but I started getting tired and that is when mistakes happen.
