Cool carving Darren, but wow that neck looks really thin.

The neck blank is 3/4" thick and the fretboard will add another 1/4" on top of that, which is pretty standard for a bolt-on.

Fair enough, the puts the final product at what .9 at 12th fret? I would find that a bit thin personally. I am really digging the single cut shape though

Yeah, i'm aiming for about 21 to 21.5 mm at the 12th fret. I'm normally not a fan of thin necks either, but the way i carve them makes them super-comfy to play.

That design is turning out soo nice! I have to admit I think I was quick enough to have nabbed that buy spot, but wanted to wait for another dB1 [Correction: Javelin!]....I have chosen poorly.

There is only one dB1. "dB###" is the serial number, not the model designation.
![]() Rather than stick a bunch of extra digits into the serial number, i just decided to start at 1 and go up from there. |

The design is absolutely brilliant, I love it! I haven't seen anything like it before, very complex and refined and still easy to understand... I think "organic" and "harmonic" are the words I'm looking for. Excellent job
![]() If anything I'm missing something about the headstock... you see it looks good, enables you to lay out the tuners reasonably, but somehow I feel it's too much of a normal headstock; it's a 2-dimensional headstock (like all other guitar headstocks really) on a three-dimensinoal body, if that makes sense. Maybe you can come up with a little twist, something a bit special, like a 16" radius on the headstock as well or a specially designed volute, a little contour on the back, ... Please don't get this the wrong way, I looooove the guitar as a whole! I only think that the rest is so extremely nicely contoured, that I'm missing this trademark somehow on the headstock to make it look complete. |

A radiused headstock is something i am considering. And the back edges of the headstock are contoured, though not as much as the body.

I like the idea of a bevel on the headstock of the V, at the very least.

I could see a multi-laminated headstock working very well here

Work is proceeding on Proto 3, which is mainly to prototype the construction of Dan Spitz's guitar, and to test a couple of other things as well.
![]() Raw materials for Proto 3. Toona mahogany back, curly European ash top, quartersawn curly European ash neck, birdseye maple fretboard. ![]() To accommodate the 16" radius carved top with a "top/back" configuration, the mating surfaces need to be curved so the top/back seam doesn't show on the front. The two slabs are carved convex and concave on the CNC, then glued together and clamped... ![]() ... with lots and lots of clamps. ![]() The prototype fretboard. Birdseye maple, 14" to 22" compound radius, graduated scallops from 19 to 24. |

More experimentation...
![]() Playing with LEDs and side-glow fiber optic cable. ![]() White looks nice. Blue bugs my eyes a bit. ![]() Red is considerably less bright, and would probably wash out easily. ![]() My first installation test! |

That looks phenomenal! I've always wanted to try doing fiber optic inlays! Any chance I could find out where you get your fiber optic cable from?

Hey, everybody!
A couple of edits and updates to tell you about... I've added a new page to the site that describes the process for ordering from me. Hopefully this will give you some insight into how the ordering, spec'ing, build and delivery will work. I've also added a page explaining some revisions to the pricing structure. Rather than going into it at length here, head on over and have a read here. |
