Well from yesterday's discussions, any updates? We figured out a Hot Plate was 100% needed, were discussing 5150's and such. Which is weird, last time I asked ss.org between a 5150 and a Dual Rec people were leaning towards a 5150.

So if we are leaning towards a 5150, are we talking original 5150, 5150II, 5150III, 6505, etc?

Keep in mind that unless I change the Ibanez 550's pickups, they are 18v modded EMG's. I got a Hellraiser 9v EMG 85/Blackout N in the bridge, the Ibanez 520QS that I will be Tone Zone-ing and of course the 7621 with Duncans.

And as for that cabinet, I decided a Vader 2x12 would be good enough. Price is fine, and even if it sounds a bit compressed I'm sure the head+attenuator will be good, right? I'm still G-A-SSSSSin over a Invader 100.

it doesnt matter what head you get if you buy an amp head like a 5150 engl (even a fireball like mine) any 'metal' mesa head or pretty much any head 50 watts and up you NEED an attenuator if you want it to sound as good as your expecting it to. at bedroom levels.

a head and 4x12 setup really just isnt meant for playing in your house.

I sit in my bedroom and play through a pod and computer speakers with an engl fireball and 4x12 within arms reach. its a live setup and theres really no need for it in a 'non live' situation.

If your intent on dropping serious cash on a tube amp id suggest getting a really good combo.

A triple rec and vader cab is an absolutley INSANE setup for your home. the low end would literally rattle your house around.

I understand that about the atteunator, I have set some aside; I was looking at 5150 combos and while they are good, people tell me that 5150/cab > 5150+head. I'm done buying-selling to move up the chain, I want something that will last me as long as my current amp did (1+ year) and give me a nice tone like the RC60 did (as best it could). I am not getting a 4x12 as even I know that is overkill.

I have debated getting a combo or something like it and I am still not sure. Something like the ENGL Sovereign or its subjugate 1x12 would most likely do, but pricewise, a 5150 + cab + atteunator comes just close to it.

Have you thought about a JSX or XXX? JSX comes in a 212 form and the XXX has a 112 form. I'm looking at buying a RC60 myself as soon as I sell my Line 6 POD XT and POS Peavey amp.

I have not; generally I have been looking at obviously ENGL, 5150, Dual/Triple Recs...I think that's bout it. Randalls when I saw Arsis / Arch Enemy using them.

you should check out the JSX, very sweet amp IMO. Versatile and good tones, with upgraded tubes I'm sure it can sound sick.

The wattage doesn't matter as I will be attuenating it and "# Four EL34s and four 12AX7s
# Power amp switchable to use EL34s or 6L6GSs" makes no sense to me as of now, it seems like it has everything the Powerball has. I like how the controls are laid out, fairly simple to use, and "fat"...not so sure what that is.

I don't have an attenuator. This is what I have and I haven't even had the ability to turn it up past 0 because of some certain other people that don't like Heavy metal. I have an idea what an attenuator is (something that goes in between speaker and power amp?)

Am I killing this thing by not turning it up?

GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT? Fitzgibbons 5000 ultra synapse accellerator which allows me to think faster than the masses and phase in and out of the matrix at will.

From what I have heard and read, you are not KILLING it, you're ruining the tone. Apparently Mesas are not good at low volumes. My friend, you are in the same compartment I am in.

My RC60, as loud as I can crank it, has a sweet spot (never turned it past 4, so...) of 3.5. What I gather, an atteunator keeps the amp at that level, but the cabinet at a lower volume level--essentially giving you the same sweet-spot output at a lower level. You, my friend who hates cars, would benefit much much more from an Atteunator than I would.

zimbloth, just bought a Vader 2x12 Cabinet and the Triple Rectifier. I figure like you said, if I don't like it I can resell it for a same/similar price and get my 5150 or next amp. Win-Win. Atteunator comes in a while!

That is good that you are not going with a combo.
