Is there a thread here that describes the specific quality of each magnet? IE what exactly it will do to your sound? I'm curious, I really like my JB/59 sets, but I'm wondering what exactly swapping it to an A8 or any other magnet would do to it.

Basically, as you go from -
AlNiCo II to Ceramic 8 - you get progressively brighter, more 3-D, with harder, faster bass, sharper highs, and mids that get colder and less "spongy." At the Alnico 2 end, the tone is very, very round, has a real soft, musical attack, and delicious, warm mids. Ceramic 8 is about just the opposite - tight bass, clear, biting highs, 3-d sound, in-your-face. |
