Yeah, that would be about the stupidest thing Square Enix could do. They've spent years working on the PS3 version, and they said they're going to finish it first before starting work on the 360 version.

That's not a "regular DVD" at all, it's not like they can put it into production and bingo...going off the article: a) it doesn't work with current DVD drives (i.e. no 360 use without drive upgrade), b) it'll be commercially available when, if ever? and cost how much to swap your standard 360 drive for one? c) After Microsoft got blown by HD-DVD would they even touch it?

I feel the same as most of the comments on it: nice work, but it's beating a dead horse, especially when BlueRay developers are reaching 200-300gig per disk now. And in regards to read time...i'm sure the super DVDs would be similar speed to BluRay anyway.

On another note, I was just watching some E3 footage, Fable 2 (360) looks incredible...that'll be a first day purchase for me, no doubt.

I can't express how glad I am about this. As a Huge fan of FF and Nobuo Uematsu I was kinda sad that that I would have to get a PS3 to play this game... I mean... THIS NEWS IS JUST FANTASTIC!

And for the angry PS3 fans... Just fucking grow up. I'm kinda irritated that some people feel jealous when you know you don't have it better than someone else.

This applies to every single annoying fanboy on the internet. It's a fucking video game console/multinational corporation! They all have huge stacks of cash, they don't need you to suck their dicks on the internet. How about instead of arguing about which expensive toy is the best and which one sucks the most with other equally stupid people, you just enjoy your console of choice and accept the fact that others enjoy theirs, even if Halo/Zelda/MGS4 or whatever game you love so much isn't available on it.

as soon as they introduced fucking robots and guns into the final fantasy series it all went fucking downhill i mean jesus christ whatever happened to sticking to what worked , eg FF7+9 those were the ONLY good final fantasy games, i hate square enix for ruining the series

If you only even liked the 7th and 9th installments of a series in the first place, how can the series have been ruined for you? You didn't even like most of it to begin with.

I think 777 is pretty confused. He might be thinking of a different series than Final Fantasy. Because every single Final Fantasy from the very first one on has had the idea of being a Fantasy game with elements of technology in it. And I think it's funny that he thinks the FF series went downhill when FF1, 2, and 3 totally sucked. FF4, FF5, and FF6 were pretty fun and I consider all 3 to be really good games for the time (6 being the best of those 3), but had the worst dialogue ever (in both Japanese and English) and the most random plots that meandered in the most insane directions. FF7 was an amazing game, but it had the same sporadic "written-off-the-top-of-you-head" dialogue style. FF8 was incredibly boring, but the dialogue got much better and the storyline writing seemed a lot more focused, despite not being as interesting as FF6 or 7. FF9 was basically not even a Final Fantasy, so that one I will not comment on. FF10 was a masterpiece. In my opinion, 10 and 7 are the best in the series. 10 is better than 7 when it comes to dialogue and storyline because the storyline is much more focused and the dialogue seems to have been thought through. FF11 is an online game and can't really be judged the same as the others. It, however, is the most "pure fantasy" of the recent FFs. FF12 had amazing graphics, a great system, was really fun to play, and was really well written, but the storyline - although really focused and thought through - was kind of boring.

I think it's funny that 777 liked FF7, but is complaining about futuristic elements, when out of all the FFs that have come out so far, FF7 was the most futuristic sci-fi out of them all with the most technology and the most non-traditional fantasy elements (which I thought was part of what made it so great). FF13 may take that position away from FF7, though.

I don't think there is a Final Fantasy that doesn't have at least one robot in it, actually... And "as soon as they introduced guns... into the series," makes no sense since FF1 had guns. One of the main elements of FF4 had guns as well. Can anyone name an FF that didn't have guns? I don't think there is an FF without guns... And FF7, the game 777 praised, had several main characters who used guns.

I liked the story of FF4 a lot more than FF6, but it was WAY too short. And one thing that kind of sucks about FF games is how in FF6 (Maybe 5? I never played it) is how they started making all characters pretty much able to do anything. I liked the old school system of you had a white mage, black mage, fighter, etc. And I also absolutely hated the system in FF12 so much that I didn't bother playing past an hour or 2. I couldn't stand it. It could have the most boner inspiring story ever but the combat system killed it for me. Lost Odyssey is what FF12 should have been.

There was a certain charm about them, it let you know just how massive the games were. I didn't mind putting in a new disc once I reaced a certain point.

You say FF went donwhill when they introduced robots and guns and referenced FF7-9 as what 'worked' yet all of those titles featured robots and guns

Great news for people who just own a 360 and nothing else. But I'll definitely be grabbing it on the PS3, without a doubt. An experience like Final Fantasy for me would seem strange on the 360. I'm just finding it harder and harder to play games on my 360 due to the stupid amount of noise it makes! It's rediculous, it sounds like a jet engine at the best of times. And I refuse to keep pumping money back to Microsoft when a 360 gets the dreaded RROD every 3 months! My PS3 is whisper quiet and reliable, so for me there's no contest which format I'll be getting this one on!
