Questions about PC memory

I was planning to buy memory for my desktop so here's my question

1.What is memory timing and which is faster 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15

2. how do you overclock memory?

3. what if i buy a ddr2 1066mhz on a ddr2 800mhz only motherboard. will it ran?

4. Are all sata cables the same? Coz i saw sata 150 cables and i cant seem to find sata 300 cable for my HDD.

I'm using windows xp home. thanks

1. Memorytiming is the latency of accessing memory. The smaller the numbers, the faster it is. So 4-4-4-12 is better.

2. You can overclock your memory in the BIOS (the thing that starts when you first boot your pc, press DEL or F2 or something like that when you see the bios, or else it will say which button you have to press).

3. It will run fine AFAIK, i've done it lots of times, so it will work, but your memory timings will suck. That's because manufacturers can raise the clockspeed (1066 over 800) by also raising the memory timing. Better have a lowlatency 800Mhz DDR2 put in your pc, than the 1066 version, but it will work.

4. I have no idea actually, but i guess they are different. The same was with ATA66 and ATA133. You need special cables for ATA133 or else the pc will recognize it as ATA66 (which you dont want offcourse).

Good luck!

well, i only know that sata150 and the 300 means that is how much data is being sent to wherever. 150 does 1500MB/sec and the 300 should do around 3000MB/sec.
