![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have the texture pack add on Makes the game a lot better looking.I always wanted to know what the game could have been, originally it was supposed to be a hybrid RPG. Could have been interesting. Not to mention other changes: Quote:

How long did it take you to kill the final boss? It took me TEN YEARS to figure out how to beat it(Yes, I literally only beat it 2 years ago). I refused to look at guides to read how to beat it, and one day randomly... I walked into the teleporter and *BLAM!* he 'asploded. I had to actually read a guide afterwards to see WTF I just did... I would have never in a million years figured it out if it weren't by accident. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known. http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/gen...ml#post1166807 Buy my sunglasses! ![]()

I cheated a little bit (understatement of the year ). I first got the game when i was 12, and was too terrified to play it without having every cheat imaginable on , and I looked at guides on how to beat it. Now I realise how much of a n00b that makes me .

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Man, I love this game! I had to hunt down a windows xp compatible version of the .exe, but it's definitely worth it. I used to play network games (deathmatch and co-op) with my mates when we were at school, over a BNC network. I had an old 486 with a throbbing 33mHz chip One of my mates was lucky enough to have a 133mHz pentium (or was it a PII?), which was state of the art at the time. Damn, makes me feel old... ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yep. I still have it on my computer, running with the "winquake" file. I've owned Quake 1, 2, and 3. My favorite of them all is Quake 2, but I really liked the atmosphere in the original Quake and I liked how they mixed dark fantasy with futuristic weaponry and Lovecraftian bosses (Shub Nibburath is one of Lovecraft's scarier creatures). I remember always playing the entry level (where you can warp to any of the worlds) over an IPX network on about 10-15 different PCs that my friend had in his house (because his dad worked on PCs). That was really fun and I thought that was the best level for multiplayer in Quake 1. Quake 2, however, I thought was a much better game. I was actually playing Quake 2 again about a month ago with some pretty sweet bots that I had downloaded off the net. I remember my PC when Quake 1 first came out not being able to run it because it required a processor that could do mathematical processing (I forget exactly what it was called) and mine couldn't. I got a new PC pretty soon after that, though. Quote:
![]() but I've played between 40 and 50 FPSs by now and at the time I first bought Quake 1, I was really into: Blake Stone, Wolfenstine, Doom II, Duke Nukem, and all the other FPSs that were out at the time.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Have to say, there's a reason it said in the manual that telefragging would instantly kill anything, and bizarre flying things are usually placed for a purpose in those games, but congratulations on finally getting that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Rise of the Triad = yes. You name it and I've probably played (in regards to FPSs). Pretty much the same opinion as me. I would rank them: Quake 2, Quake, Quake 3 - with Quake 3 quite a ways behind the first two, primarily because it changed into a completely different kind of game and, like you said, doesn't have any real single player (which was fine for Unreal Tournament, which is probably my favorite FPS - but was not good at all for a Quake game).
