Jeff
THIS is why I refuse to buy Monster.

However, they market them against full size systems, and that really isn't entirely fair. They're the best clock radio sized systems I've ever heard, but for the price, if audio quality is your only concern, you're way better off with a power amp anda full size speaker set.

But just because they market them as competitive with a"real" stereo doesn't mean they suck - if I needed a kickass system in VERY limited space and was prepared to pay for it, I'd probably go with a Bose. You're certainly paying a premium for theirt smaller scale, but sometimes, if you're prepared to pay a premium for smaller size, that isn't bad.

they're just (semi-intentionally) misunderstood.
See, I wouldn't know, because their douchebag marketing approach doesn't let you hear them before you buy them, instead they just tell people "This is the best sound you can get!" and people believe them, when it's just not true. Working in a high-end stereo shop, though, I've learned how to translate buzzword bullshit, and "wide surround sound from two speakers in a small desktop system" means horribly out of phase.

My main complaint is with the one Bose product I have, a pair of headphones I won in a contest. These ones:

Judging by the price (the pictures also a link), you'd think they'd be good. And they do sound good. Not as nice as my AKGs, but nice. I'm listening to them right now actually. My complaint is the fact that they fell apart after a month or two and are currently held together with tape.

Take this for example:

For that price you can get this:

...which is also a DVD player with component video outputs and a subwoofer out (higher models in that series feature better speakers and wired or wireless USB hookup). I can guarantee it sounds better, if only because it doesn't have any stupid processing getting in the way of the sound coming off the disk, it doesn't try to be anything it's not, it's just good clean sound with a surprisingly good amount of bass, and two actual speakers that can be placed wherever you want them (meaning there's actually a chance of placing them in the right place, unlike the Bose, where the speakers are permanently held in the wrong place).

You know what?
I stand by Monster Guitar Cables 100%. I've never had any other cable that has been as good as them. I've bought two, and have replaced them each once (My fault both times) which is free of charge and takes 3 minutes.

But honestly, I will NEVER buy their overpiced speaker wire (Copper wire is copper wire...) or those $200 HDMI cables. However, their component cables (And RCA as well) are definately worth it. I picked up a bunch for a PENNY each (Guitar Center employees used to jump at the one cent stock to clear out inventory) and None of my other cables can perform quite as well.

As many times as i've A/B'd cables, I can clearly say I think Monster is one of the best.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known.
