ok so this thread is dumb but whatever

So I tried to hook up a serial console to my HP workstation and couldn't get it to fucking work. I was like "god damnit why the hell isn't it working."

I was already being "on the edge" since my Ultra 20 doesn't have a serial port for some reason so I was SSHing into my FTP server and using that serial port then I read somewhere while looking for stuff that null modem cables have the pins reversed much like crossover cables. SCORE!! I just need an adapter and oh yes, I happen to have something that might be one!

and it is!! WHOOO!!!! so then I was able to get to the boot menu (PDC) oh my HP, score! Ok now boot linux...ok...no login? wtf?!?!? so I scoot around and edit my PALO config to start up a TTY...but...no login? WTF! oh yes, but wait!

we need getty powers!, I set it up to run getty on ttyS0 and change my init level to start it up, SCORE! logged in over serial bitches! Next time I'll have to move it like out the front door and use my 2 50-or-something foot serial cables

That's a pretty long adapter thingy you got goin' on in there.

you know, you could have just cut the head off and uncrossed the one cable. but the 2 cables and 2 adapters is definitely cooler. I got the first half of what you were doing, as that was all simple hardware based, but I lost you at palo config.

That's about as basic as it gets. If you don't understand the wiki, maybe it's best to just forget about it and think about something non-computer-related. Like it said on the wiki, it's a free operating system.

yeah, but is it for programming only or what? I dont know, I never really got into it, I may try and figure it out later on in my life
