Osx 10.5.1 permission errors

Getting a lovely little error on one of hte boxes here after upgrading to 10.5.1.

Basically application permissions are completely fubar (you cant run any applications because the user doesn't have the proper permissions.

I tired changing permissions/nuking the user/library/applications/config and a few other things with no dice

I had to revert to 10.4.2 to get hte box to work again...

I think this might be a g5 issue tho since i had no problem on the g4s or even the minimacs....

this space for rent

Interesting. (And not in a good way.)

I'm holding off on 10.5 for at least another month, maybe two.

hte boxes?

I'm struggling to comprehend how something as fundamentally problematic as that could get by...

Leopard problems are one of the reasons I am not upgrading yet.

Some have gone so far to call it the new Vista.

Yes you should wait - There are a lot people having issues with adobe creative suite now (myself included.. )

Also there are a lot of problems with trying to verify and repair permissions- many people are reporting that whenever they try and repair permissions they get the progress bar and it says 1 minute remaining but nothing happens. (One person said he let it sit for 70 min. and it never ran properly)

Unfortunately I didn't really look into any issues before taking the plunge. I'm not really a Mac guy (just use them at work).. I will say though that this is the first real problem I have had with the mac (aside from user config files sometimes getting corrupted which is no big deal really as it doesn't happen very often...)

Experience has told me that it doesn't pay to be an early adopter with new Mac OS releases. I wait for others to do the final "field debugging" before i take the jump. And because i use Acrobat Pro almost every day, i simply cannot upgrade until Adobe releases their update in January.

Ok given that Adobe announced there would be issues before 10.5 even shipped that's not surprising

As for the rest of it, I'm waiting for a bit... what irks me is that BootCamp expires on 12/31 and my wife uses it A LOT so I sort of have to upgrade her before that. I'm not looking forward to it

Incoming Pimptastic Purple KxK Singlecut of Doom
Orange 2x12 - Damn am I colorful

Oh Rick, i wasn't being a dick. I'm a relatively recent mac owner myself.

I don't know what hte boxes are, but the issue sounds basically problematic. How could they not notice a glitch that doesn't let you open programs?

I'm still muddling through with the new os.

I'm too lazy to do a clean install of 10.4. I have all of my work files on an external hard drive but getting all of the adobe applications reinstalled with all of my extra goodies is a multi hour ordeal I just don't want to bother with..

I cannot export pdf files from Indesign - but I can chose the print command from Indesign and select pdf and it will create one. .

Nothing like having printers screaming they need a file for a deadline when you have these kinds of problems

Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver are all unaffected. I get the SBOD imore in Photoshop than i did with 10.4 but aside from that I have not run into any glitches with it.

Haven't had to use Final Cut or After Effects yet (crosses fingers)

Firefox is not working very well - on many sites it will not render CSS at all (Kind of sucks when you are a web developer)

Overall I like the new OS - the finder is a lot faster and gives better results (I might have to quit calling it the "can't finder"). I am still getting the spinning beachball of death about as often as I did 10.4.

Hopefully the next update will smooth out a lot of the issues people are having.
