Live from Damn Small Linux

whoops

so, i tried to install Ubuntu Studio onto my PC tonight. you can probably see where this is going already... apparently the DVD was damaged (or the file was corrupt), because the installer crashed about halfway through. luckily, i had a disc of Damn Small Linux sitting around, for just this kind of occasion.

my 360G machine is now being controlled by a 50M OS

hopefully i can redownload Ubuntu Studio, and get myself back up and running on a more user friendy OS. i mean, DSL is cool and all, but wow, it's stripped down.

yeah ... also try burning at a lower speed

Gotta love the Live CD's.

I always keep a CD of MEPIS around for just such occasions.

If you want something with more bells and whistles and awesome hardware recognition I highly recommend it.

Side note: I just update my OpenOffice to 2.3. Went smooth as glass fortunately.

just realized... i'm sure it does, but does DSL have a disc burning utility?

well, it appeared as though DSL would only burn CD's, and not DVD's, so... i searched around and found a Fedora 6 DVD, which i'm running now, and am about to burn Ubuntu Studio to a new DVD at a slower speed (thanks Jeff), so we'll see how that works out

man, what a pain in my ass

Leon - same thing happened to me. I downloaded Ubuntu 7.10 Tribe DVD and went to install and found its corrupted like nuts. Went back to Arch Linux. DSL is nice though.

You should check out the Slax live cd, you can find it here. It's based off of Slackware Linux, has a lot of boot up options if you so choose to use them, and is only about 198M. It uses K3B for burning, and can burn DVD's and CD's. I think you can install it to a memory stick too. I use it alot at work to do quick file recovery, and it works like a charm!

well, i don't know what's up, i can't even DOWNLOAD Ubuntu Studio anymore. can any of you guys? i *have* redownloaded Debian 4.0, the net-install disc, and may just go right back to that again.

most of the download links were broken the last time I tried to download it, then I found the DVD I thought I lost, heh.
