Anyone here build computers?
If so, think you could help a guy out? Basically, I'm thinking about buying the parts the build my own computer. I have a friend who puts them together all the time, so my only problem is finding the parts. All I want is a pretty basic setup; nothing all too fancy. Here's the thing: I play WoW, and I want my computer to run it as smoothly as possible. Right now I run it on my laptop (Dell Latitude C600) and I'd say it's a bit jumpy. So, is there anyone on here who could recommend me a list of parts that would do this well? I'm on a tight budget and will be doing this bit by bit, so the best "bang for the buck" parts would be appreciated. Thanks.

For AMD:
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail For Intel: Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail They're very close in performance with a slight edge going to the Intel chip but the price difference is pretty significant for the very small gain. Video Card: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-NX73T256P-RH GeForce 7300GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail I actually have the 7600 version and it's excellent but apparently it's out of stock. They also have the newer 8600 series which is even better and costs only a little more. I'd throw some motherboard recommendations and stuff but I have to go do a home visit for one of my firms top people so I don't have time to continue on. But the above is a very inexpensive and very functional setup even for games. Of course, it's *not* a super powered gaming powerhouse by any means but as you said you don't need anything too fancy so ![]() Rev. ![]() |

Right now I'd definitely go Intel if you can swing it, price-wise. These Athlon boxes we bought recently at work are decent, but even my laptop with a Core 2 Duo is faster. Also would go with nVidia as was mentioned. As far as motherboards, Abit or Asus work quite well.
