![]() | Got an Intel Quad-Core coming! I ordered the Intel Q6600 Quad-Core processor, Gigabyte mobo, 2gigs A-Data Extreme PC26400 memory, and a new PSU for my case yesterday. I've bought nothing but AMD for years as I love their stuff and the price/performance ratio but with the price drop on the Intel Quad-Core the decision was simple. I'm upgrading from an AMD Sempron 64 3000+. It's funny too cause it's my general purpose PC (internet, music listening, downloading, occasional video encoding, etc) whereas my audio PC that I use for all my writing/recording etc is an AMD Athlon X2 5200+. So my general PC is now going to be more powerful than my more important PC It doesn't matter though cause the X2 5200+ kicks major ass and I rarely ever even reach 50% CPU useage anymore so I'm set with it's power.Anyhow, I'm very excited... and the price was $545! I love AMD and have been using their shit exclusively for years but I'm not a "fan boy". I always go for what gives me the most for the least price and Intel did it this time. Rev. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I read this online benchmark test that said that the AMD Dual Core processors were at best on par with the Intel Core Duo. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of that? |

The quad-core processors smoke however, they are serious performers and one look at the benchmarks shows it. Only drawback with the quad-core is that not all applications take advantage of all four cores, some software only does two cores. You can see this in a number of benchmarks at Tomshardware.com as with some applications, such as 3D Studio Max, the quad-core performs amazingly better (almost double that of a dual-core) but on some other apps the results are nearly exactly the same as the E6600 dual-core. Good thing is I use a number of apps that do take advantage of the quad-core. Rev. | |
