Not Understanding the Vista hatred

We've just gotten a few Vista Business boxes in this week, and I've been playing with them extensively. 1GB of RAM, onboard video, Athlon X2 4000+ ($70 processor).

Vista Business, with Aero enabled, flies. Very fast. Granted, I did do all the patches they've released to correct performance and reliability, but this is quite nice.

I guess either:

A: It wasn't that bad to begin with
B: this few patches fixed it immensely.

I dunno. I don't feel the sudden need to jump ship anymore to exclusively Linux, or buying a Mac.

To top it off, there's quite a few features I really dig, like the Ghost-esque full system backup. Very cool. Tagging of files is nice, albeit lacking since it's file level, not OS level.

my hatred starts at the most basic level: i have to pay for Vista

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

+1 What's the point in me giving Microsoft MORE money! I remember having to buy WFW3.11, then 95, then 98, then XP! IMHO XP was the only one CLOSE to worth it, especially when I was used to NT at work...

I'm sure after a few patches Vista will be fine... but I'm waiting for the change under my couch to pile up first!

I like vista.... Once you turn off all the fancy interface features... You know, so It DOESN'T use almost a gig of ram IDLING...

You shake your ass but you're already dead.

and what would that be?

you know FreeBSD is the only OS with Free in the name...I've used more OSes than most people...and I don't really care what a system has on it

No offense, but you clearly don't understand how Vista allocates memory in comparison to XP or 2000. It takes more than running processes needs for faster access, and releases it as software requests it.
