New pc with vista
so i just got a brand new pc today, and it came loaded with vista. Now when i used to run xp, i had a bunch of tweaks to make it faster and better, as well as tweak xp. anyone have any recommendations for increasing performance etc... on vista? i'm gonna try it out for a month before i decide whether to keep it or go back to xp for a while.

Switching to not-aqua will speed things up a lot, that thing sucks resources like a bitch. 23MB on mine (DWM)
I just came up with a greyscale theme as "high contrast 1" and now it only uses 1.4MB ![]() ![]() |

Oh yeah, only Aero supports transparency on the windows sidebar thingamajig.
and ditch the system restore, also in system properties you can kill some things in the performance - visual effects part, fade/sliding of menus and stuff is dumb and takes time to do, so if you want it to "feel" snappier disable those. |

That's probably faster than mine (2.2GHz opteron dual core) but has some shitty ass graphics, if you want your system to run faster upgrade to a real graphics card.
