Xbox Licence transfer? help please!

hey guys,

My xbox got the red ring of death a few hours back, and i'm going to get one of the newer slim ones, but on the xbox site, it says i have to have the old xbox on to transfer the content licenses to the new xbox, i'm really not sure what to do.

can you transfer the licenses with the transfer cable or something?

cheers.

Just buy the cheap 4gb slim and rip apart your old Hard-drive and put it in the New slim. Thats what i did to keep all my saves & save some cash. you can also buy a case for your old hard-drive so it fits in the slim like a stock one off eBay for like 3 bucks.

Kamikaze7 I for one value my guitars and gear like people value their kids - ....ing with my guitars or gear is equal to me molesting your kids - you just don't do it if you value your life...

Whiskey_Funeral For that much money I'd just put myself through Luther School and build the damn thing myself.

MaxOfMetal I just love guitars. It doesn't matter how many strings, frets, pickups, or wood used I just dig the .... out of them all.

Yup, buy the slim. I did the same thing and it works great. You can find the hard drive enclosure, for the slim, on ebay for like $5.

It depends on what you're hoping to save.

There's an "import profile" feature which allows one to import their current profile, friends, gamerscore, etc to any xbox360. It simply asks one to enter the associated email address and password, to confirm they are the owner of the profile.

Licenses (like purchased arcade or on-demand titles, movies, etc) are all attached to one's profile. One will need to re-download each as needed, but will not have to re-purchase.

Where things become tricky is if you're hoping to hold on to your game saves. That would require some version of HD transfer/swap from the old console to the new.

I've already got a transfer cable to move my saves over, had it for ages now, was going to buy one of the slim xboxes ages ago but never got round to it.

i was thinking about ripping my hard drive apart, but i'm not quite sure still, i haven't got much space left on my current hard drive anyway, (118.6gb) so it'd quite nice with the extra space, but i am quite tempted about saving money.

With the transfer cable, you should be all good, as the licenses should be attached to the profile itself.
