This thread is now about awesome old games. Everyone needs to go play Contra.
In the early days of emulators I remember downloading a copy of this game... From what I remember it was a futuristic sidescroller (a la Metroid) but the big selling point was that you were controlling some kind of big mech suit, and you could actually get out of the suit and run around on foot. Not 100% sure on this one, but I think you also might've been able to take other guys suits or have them take yours or something like that.
What was it?! "Can we pull back the veil of static and reach in to the source of all being? Behind this curtain of patterns, this random pattern generator. So clever. Right here in every home, watching us from a one-sided mirror." Argbadh - RHLC© |

Metal Warriors was fantastic. So was Cybernator/Assault Suit Valken.
Front Mission Gun Hazard did the same thing (control a Mech and can dismount), but unfortunately that game was pretty bad. Shame, as it was by Square Enix too, complete with fantastic music. Also regarding Contra, everyone needs to play the latest Contra Game: Daisuke Ishiwatari (the guy who did the Guilty Gear/Blazblue music) did the score for this game so that's 65% more awesome right there.

Did we not just talk about this game a few months ago Bloody? However, yes, fantastic game indeed!
Now if they would just make a damn OST for it... |

Yeah they've done some really solid remakes of classics for Xbox Arcade. Like Castlevania.

My friends and I used to waste so much time playing the VS. mode of Metal Warriors in elementary school.
We had like round robin tournaments of it. |

Not necessarily. I can tell you every great game on the SNES, but I can also tell you it's fair share of mediocre to downright terrible games too. In fact, I've already mentioned Gun Hazard. ![]() I played the SNES waaaay to much. http://www.cracked.com/article_15231_7-reasons-21st-century-making-you-miserable.html http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-...better-person/ http://www.cracked.com/article_18817_5-reasons-future-will-be-ruled-by-b.s..html http://www.cracked.com/article_15663_10-things-christians-atheists-can-must-agree-on.html http://www.cracked.com/article_14990...keysphere.html http://www.cracked.com/article_19468...you-think.html |

My wee cousin has no idea what Contra is. His generation will never know how awesome old games are. I pity them for that.

Speaking of Contra-like awesome old games...
Anybody who didn't play Journey To Silius, your childhood missed out on so much... http://www.cracked.com/article_15231_7-reasons-21st-century-making-you-miserable.html http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-...better-person/ http://www.cracked.com/article_18817_5-reasons-future-will-be-ruled-by-b.s..html http://www.cracked.com/article_15663_10-things-christians-atheists-can-must-agree-on.html http://www.cracked.com/article_14990...keysphere.html http://www.cracked.com/article_19468...you-think.html |

Since we're talking awesome old video games, I urge any RPG fans to seek out Ys I & II (it's all one game) on the turbografx-16. AMAZING RPG, and was the first to have voice acting. The music is incredible, even by today's standards, hell it even has a few shreddin' guitar solos.
And yeah Contra was the shiz...UUDDLRLRBAstart!! Ibanez ARZ307, SA32EX Gibson LPJ, Squire II frankenstrat of doom Dual Recto Rev G,6505+, B-52 AT-100 POD XT Pro, Velocity 100 |
