DAW time!

i got a new desktop computer! i bought it from a friend who didn't really need it anymore. it has, to the best of my knowledge:

1.6GHz P4
1GB RAM
3 HD's (2 80gig drives set up as one large volume (LVM), and a 200gig serial drive)
Audigy2 sound card
256mb video card
DVD +/- burner
19" monitor

...and i just finished setting up an installation of Fedora Core 5 w/ XFCE.

now... how do i record with this thing?

As far as I know, Rosegarden is the most popular full-featured recording software (http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/)

There's also Audacity if you just need recording and no sequencing or other bells and whistles (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Logic is my personal be-all-end-all DAW, but you should be fine with Rosegarden

I like this better than Rose Garden, personally. Audacity's more of a Sound Forge replacement. Have fun getting JACK going! Though with a Creative card, you should be fine.

Hydrogen is a drum sequencing program that you can JACK into Ardour. JACK is a lot like Rewire, basically.

DAW time!
