Need help choosing a 7
New here and looking for some help to pick out a new guitar. I'm not new to guitars, but I've been out of it for awhile and just now coming back, and have owned nice guitars and amps in the past, but completely new to the 7 string world. I'm looking for the best possible one I can get for $3-450ish maybe more, I know there's the rg7321, but I'd like to get something considerably better then that.

i say dont go with the rg7321 because im so bored of people getting those on here hahah. Try out a nice schecter damien. That seems like the best buy in your budget. However from experience i suggest you save up some money enough for a guitar with GOOD pickups. because if they arent good, your eventually gonna end up paying for replacements anyway. Get some nice EMGS or Blackouts.

And what exactly would make a different guitar "better" than the rg7321? Obviously, there are better guitars out there in terms of sound, playability, and aesthetics (although all are subjective qualities), but in truth, you get what you pay for. If you want to buy a $450 guitar, expect it to play like a $450 guitar. I did notice you said "$3-450ish maybe more," but that's not very helpful. Be more specific in what you're looking for, and the most you would spend and I'm sure the helpful members of SS.org will be more than willing to help you out.

you can get a second hand 7621 for that no problem, it will slay everything in your price range. They originally retailed for about $1000 but were discontinued in 2002 so are an absolute steal nowadays.
i got one recently and im really loving it, the MIJ quality is great and it has a really beefy tone ![]() Heres the thread: NGD! First 7 string |

Yeah I'll have to go with the 7620/1 as well. They are just awesome guitar's. I mean, for the price you pay compared to any new 7 in the range, no question.

Second hand S7420! try to find one that is Made in Japan (MIJ) released around 1999-2000. This has a 25.5 scale length but with defintion in the low B. This is a great first 7 string guitar. If you want something with more tightness and low end beefiness you can check the RG2020XL which has a 27" neck scale.
I don't usually recommend them as first 7's as the extended neck scale takes a little getting used to. However as a second 7 string guitar, its great because you'd be familiar with a host of 7 string songs to play on it and the scale length shouldn't hold you back. |
