So, how do you guys buy your strings?
also, what would match a 9-42 set and a 10-46 set on a 25.5 scale tuned to B standard? Thanks -Sam |

Buy packs of 10. For 9's a .52 for your B would be fine.
If its a six string, tuning 9's to B standard is just dumb, sorry. |

58 or 60 in B would match the tension of a 44 in E. The normal 7 string sets that add a 52 or 54 below the 6 you have mentioned is a very floppy match.
I used to buy 6 string sets and a single from D'addario but the thick basses are expensive. Buying Circle K's now and they are such a good price (even though I am picking all 7 at custom - they offer singles the same price as sets), sensible gauges in their sets, great quality, good multibuy discounts etc. Shipping is only 16 dollars so very worth it if you buy a few sets! |

Thanks but im in the uk, so it would cost me $25 for 10 strings, and then another $25 on postage and customs fee's. which is frankly ridiculous

I buy 6 string packs for my 8 string and then get the other two individually.

I go to a local place that sells single strings, and buy a set of 6 and a single. (10 - 52 + 60 in standard is what I like) Like EtherealEntity said, many seven string sets will give you something like a 54 or 52 for your B and it will be pretty loose, I generally avoid the premade sets for sevens.
I'm not sure if places like GC sell singles since its been a little while since I've been to one. If they don't, I would check local small businesses. |

My guitar instructor buys strings in bulk for his students so i just buy my usual d'addario 10-59 from him. Its more convenient and a little cheaper than ordering online.

DR makes really good strings and has a 10-59 set for under $10 US. Seem to stretch in faster and last longer than others i've used

GHS makes .11-.70 and .10-.60 six-string sets. I buy those and some other cheap string pack to make my own string set.
