String gauge for ACGFAD

What would be the best string gauges for this tuning?

Using a Schecter Tempest Blackjack. Mahogany body/neck, Rosewood fingerboard, 24.75" scale. Set Neck.

What do you guys think? I was thinking something along the lines of 11-70's.

Personally, I'd use an 11-50 set, and swap teh 50 out for something a little bigger. 68or 70 or something.

Thats what I was thinking was the 11-50 but swapping the 50 out for the 70. It's a shorter scale guitar than I'm used to so I'm not entirely sure of what effect that has on the gauges of the strings.

Use this to have a good idea of what the tension would be like with a particular string gauge:

String Guage and Tension Calculator - Version 0.1.4 - 26 apr 1998

"Solid-state - A component that has been specifically designed to make a guitar amplifier sound bad. Compared to tubes, these devices can have a very long lifespan, which guarantees that your amplifier will retain it's thin, lifeless, and buzzy sound for a long time to come."

pretty odd tuning there OP, what's the idea?

anyway, i have an sg in drop b, using a 12-56 set with the bottom replaced with a 68. nice high tension for strong resonant low notes. i find this to be a very comfortable set up, although the tension in the top 3 strings is perhaps a little too high.

personally i find the 68 is a little too loose for a low a, so maybe 70-72? i know that nile use a 70 on the bottom...

Is this by any chance the "Mastodon" tuning we're talking about here, Ie. A G C F A D ?

If so, I've gotten away with that one on a 10-52 set pretty well. A set of 11-54 would be fine too.

^ It is the same tuning, just different style of music. Mastodon always seemed a little "looser" when it came to that tuning, but the kind of music I'm playing is supposed to be tight and precise. And I'm trying to set up my guitar in such a way to reflect that.

Trying to play Zyglrox or what? I'd personally grab a set of 9's, set the 9 aside for my 8 string, use the rest for the first 5 strings and put a 66 on the bottom or something. You'd need a 56 at the very least on the low end.

Zyglrox is the only song I know in that tuning so I just tune my Drop C axe down. It's loose as .... on the low 56, but I'm not gonna set up a guitar for just that tuning. Although I do use it but a semitone down for Architects Early Grave as well. Hmm.

The low A on the Mastodon stuff is also very loose. As far as I know the axes they use for that tuning are not set up with heavier strings on the low A, just tuned differently. I for one really, really dig that sound of the slack-ish low A for the stuff they do. It's a bit of a bitch to play though

That said, I'd go for a 11-52 set and put a .65 bass string on the low.

I do really dig on some mastodon, but some friends and I are jamming and it's more tight and proggy metal. I do like that slack low A but in this scenario it doesn't seem to fit.
