What NOT to do onstage *LoL's inside!*

Don't spin your guitar!
1. Strap locks are a must
2. Check your surroundings first!!!

When mounting the stage
1. Check clothing doesn't restrict movement

When playing live
1. Know your parts!
2. If you can't play a part, don't!

When stagediving
1. Check your surroundings!
2. Wireless is preferred

When you book an event
1. Make sure your band's style is comparable to other acts on the bill

Guitar maintenance
1. Don't remove all your tuners

Amp maintenance
1. Guitar amps contain lethal voltage, stored in capacitors even when turned off
2. Don't randomly poke around in there!

Enjoy!

I really wish I can track down the video of me jumping off a PA speaker during a show, landing on the stage, falling forward, rolling on-top of my pedalboard, knocking the mic stand down and one final roll off the stage onto the floor yet still playing....

tl;dr: don't jump off really high spots.

I once saw the guitarist for the Acacia Strain (pretty sure it was Daniel Laskiewicz) do a strap throw that resulted in his guitar hitting the floor and the headstock snapping right off. It was hilarious because for a few seconds he didn't know what happened and kept trying to play. So he ran offstage to find another guitar, but apparently didn't have his own backup and all the other bands were using different tunings. It took ~10 minutes to get one/set one up, and in the meantime we were treated to a bizarre but entertaining diatribe from Vincent Bennett. Lesson: if you play with knees bent and the guitar near your shins, stand up for the strap throw.

The guitar flip fail never fails to make me laugh. My friend showed me that a while back and it's still one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

This is the best guitar spin. Apparently using straplocks though so got to remember they do fail. Still, they don't look cool. Don't do it kids!

the guy slapping the guitar player is friggin classic....

reminds me of the bass player in my old band...he used to do what we liked to call "kissy face ground stomp" and he would proceed to stamp all over the stage. While he was pretending to be Godzilla, he usually would yank the cable out of the lead guitar players pedal board, and once even managed to flip the entire pedal train short board over.

The first time he did this the guitar player went over and turned his amp off and just gave him a shitty look.

Some of my favourite war stories;

Was in Camden watching a band before my set. Young guys, start sound checking, no sound. They look confused and check everything on stage. No sound. As they both move away to check their sides of the stage both guitarists are pulled together and stop. They look... They realise... They plugged their guitars into different ends of the SAME guitar lead.

In south London, low key venue. Bass player leaves beer on top of PA speaker. As the gig goes on the beer works it's way closer to the edge from vibrations. There was a moment where timed slowed.... Noooooooo... as the beer fell, flooding the extension socket for the stage power, shorting the circuit breaker at the main fuse board and plunging the entire place into darkness. There was a 20 minute drum solo illuminated by cigarete lighters until the electrics were restored. Great drummer by the way, worked out well, surprisingly!

Same guys played a mid sized out door festival and the bass player did the same thing, again!

Keep your spare fuses labelled and near the fuseboard venue staff!!!
