Low watt guitar head for xtreme metal
Hey all,
I ve been searching the net a lot for my first guitar head so iam gonna ask here too ![]() USEFULL INFO My budget 500-600 euros(around 650-700 dollars) My guitar DBz bird of prey with 81/85 pickups Tone in mind : well i am into all kinds of xtreme metal from old school death metal to grind core to deathcore(djent i guess:P) to more groovie stuff like pantera and hardcore so u get the idea Previous Gear: some rocktron stuff like piranha, pro gap, chameleon and so on Important Fact: i cant test any of those low watt heads where i live so iam gonna base my order only from online opinions i reviewd a lot of opitons but since iam gonna use this for bedroom practise and some recording i was thinking to buy a low watt head . I have narrowed down to two choices(with bugera 6262 being the last solution if none works, yes high walttage:P) engl gigmaster and black star HT-5RH. Which of the 2 u think will achieve the tone iam after(if any)? iam reading that low watt heads suffer from lack of gain ? i need them to produce some rly heavy high gained stuff ![]() suggestions are welcome thx in advance |

Neither head has a ton of gain. Replacing the preamp tubes helped quite a bit, but still might not be exactly what you're looking for. Maybe save up a tad more and get the new mini Recto.

Used Peavey 5150, 6505+, XXX, JSX, or 3120. All are great amps and you can mod them down the line for an additional $500-1000 and they will rival many boutique amps if you are looking for a metal amp. Only downside is the older Peavey 5150 has a shitty clean channel... it actually has a nice loose dirt feel to it (goof for EVH style of "clean") but not if you want bell-like chime clean such as on a Diezel.
I know these aren't strictly low wattage, but I rocked my 5150 combo on 2 in an apartment for years... and you can always buy an attenuator later on too. |

^ other than my previous recommendations... and reason you wouldnt consider a combo with built in effects like a Roland Cube 80XL, Fender, Line6?

One more recommendation... Carvin V3M? On sale for $699 USD. 3 channels, 50/22/7 W, boost, reverb... 4xEL84 and 5x12AX7 tubes.
