Sepultura's "Territory" is a blast. 4-1-1-1-4-1-1-1-3-0 and then just hit the top three strings as hard as you can.

+1, actually. They have some great catchy little riffs, and some great melodic solos. However, they aren't hardcore/metalcore.

Strapping Young Lad's "Love?" is a decent intermediate rumble that can easily be played on a standard tuned 7 string, easily done with a Capo on the first, but imo its not even nessacary, as I play it in the correct key (C) by just playing it all from the first fret on my B string.

You really can't go wrong with old Metallica. Grab Kill 'em All or RTL and go to town. For something slightly more technical, Holy Wars is a great workout and not too tough. (solos aside, of course).

U.F.O. - Only You Can Rock Me

Easy song to learn and play. Very melodic guitar solo too.

cowboys from hell - pantera
fucking hostile - pantera (fun solo too, and not to hard)
pretty much anything by pantera, I started learning metallica songs way back when I started, and sure, it was fun, but when I started learning pantera songs, mang I've hardly had as much fun learning anything ever since
