Seven String Reccomendations for a newbie
I heard about this forum through the Ultimate guitar forums and decided it would be th best place to go to get my seven string questions answered...
Ever since I started listening to DT and Unearth I've been Gasing for a seven. The ones that I keep coming back to are the new S7320's, the Agile Interceptor Pro (blue flame), and the old RG seven with the edge pro/lo pro (7620?). I've only played one seven before (an old RG with a LO-TRS) and I loved everything about it except for the trem. I'm pretty set one a seven with a quality trem because its going to be kept in standard so I won't have to deal with the hassles of changing tunings. Now the questions: Is the S uncomfortable to play because of its thin shape? I played a six string S at a store for a short period of time but quickly put it down because the neck didn't feel right (which was odd because I usually like Ibanez necks )What's the trem on the Agile like? And the neck? I have kinda small hands so a thick seven neck might be to much to handle (My main guitar right now is a Les Paul, but I don't how that compares to a "thick" seven neck) What are the specs of those 7620's? I heard they come with DiMarzio Blazes standard, but I'm not sure about the body wood (basswood, or alder?), and I've seen some with a skunk stripe and some without it, what's it supposed to be like? Any other seven-string recommendations are welcome, I'm new to these things Sorry for the long winded post, and any help would be appreciated |

umm, born and raised and fed on ibanez rg's, love the s7320.
the agile has i believe an lfr, it MIGHT be ofr, but i doubt it. you could always swap it though, for around $200 i think. But for that hassle, id say an s7320 is better. and if you can get a decent price (<$450), an rg7620 is an amazing guitar. its basswood, but you just need to balance that with the right pickups. dimarzios work particularly well, as most of them were designed with basswood guitars largely popular, due to the 80s being a shredfest. check into a schecter c7-fr too. good guitars If you want to spend a little more, you can grab an rg1570 (pretty much a newer version of the 7620, got some +s and -s when compared), or a schecter jeff loomis signature. There are alot of other options, but 7 strings with trems are more pricey

I'm an Ibanez-aholic personally... I've tried a couple other 7's, and didn't really like them compared to my Ibanez's. I've never had the pleasure of playing an S, but I've got a K-7, which is essentially an RG, and I've got to say I love it. Go to your local Guitar Center and pull down an RG7321 (The black fixed-bridge one) and try that out. The neck, body shape, and overall feel should be fairly similar 7620, minus the better construction and pickups. I doubt you'd be able to find somewhere to try a 7 with a trem like the RG7620, so try one of the Ibanez 6's to get a feel for it (if they're not all horribly out of tune, like most guitars at GC). I love the Lo-Pro on my K-7, so I'd say the trem on the 7620 would probably be good. And hell, if you're not too set on a Trem, go for an RG7321. They're cheap, so that might be good for a newbie, even though you'll probably end up changing the pickups or selling it or something. All and all, I've loved every Ibanez I've played, and felt like the necks on the Shecter's and other 7's I've tried were a little too chunky... so my vote's on the 7620.
If you're out there and you're cute, maybe you're beautiful, I just wanna tell you something... there's more of us ugly m*ther f*ckers then you are.

I would say 7620. You get a much more resonant sound out of that body than the S series. I agree that the RG bodies are much more comfortable to me, but I am also a big guy.

try out some sevens at a guitar shop then decide..
since the majority has stated the ibanez is the way to go. i picked up a jackson dx 7 (miss labeled really dr-7) off of ebay. they go from 150 to 300. made in 200 to 2001. they are nice...
ultimately, you put your cash down on something you will play. lastly, go down to a guitar shop and play.... peace minatour87 |

It embrasse more your body, kind of. It's a question of personnal preference. Quote:
I think the neck is suposed to be between a Schecter and Ibanez... Check out the review section on the board, just to make sure. There's a couple of reviews. I'll have to strongly disagree with this. It sounds different, but much more resonance in a RG? No way. |

Of the guitars you mentioned and your requirements, I'd recommend the S7320 because it has a ZR tremolo (Zero Resistance) which I think is the best tremolo out there. The only downside is that it's 22 frets, while all the RGs are 24 frets. The RG7620 you mentioned is basswood, as are all RGs. The S7320 is mahogany. A new S7320 or a used RG7620 would both be good ways to go, but I think you might be more satisfied with the S7320.

Or a H&S custom. You can buy them on ebay for less than £180, although im not sure what the deal is with getting them in america.
I'm pleased with mine, as a first 7-string anyway. |
