Question Pickup question.

Hi, I'm new to these forums and not sure if this is the place to post this but here goes. I bought 2 EMG 707HZ-A1 pickups but the only thing I got were the pickups themselves and the quick connectors. What I'm wondering is how do i install these into my guitars body? My old pickups were coils with mounting rings but this thing looks like it might need something else. Will I need anything else?

EMG 7 string pickups require you to route your guitar to fit them. They're actually in a 5 string bass housing. Once you've routed you screw through the pickups directly into the body of the guitar.

As you've bought the passive HZ's instead of the full actives, I'd suggest returning them and buying Duncans or Dimarzio's. Dimarzio have recently released the D-Activators which are designed to sound like the best parts of active and passive pickups. It'll be cheaper than routing your guitar.

If you're going to buy EMGs for a guitar with passives, don't buy HZs. If you do, you'll have to route the guitar for a sound that is, in most players' opinions, not very good. I would say either return the pickups you bought and get some REAL EMGs (the 707 would probably be a good choice) or buy some Duncans or Dimarzios. As metalfiend666 mentioned, Dimarzio's D-Activators are passive pickups that are the same size as normal humbuckers but that sound very much like active pickups (such as EMGs).

(I didn't know the 7-string D-Activators were already on sale)
