  | I did that for the longest time. When I used to tune in drop A, even without the capo, I could easily play anything in standard, drop D, B, or A because of the extra string, and with the capo I could play damn near anything. Nowadays I use the capo almost exclusively on my acoustic, though. It's kind of funny. On my electrics, I like to tune really low (usually drop Ab, and down to LOW Eb on my newest guitar), but on my acoustic that's only tuned down half a step, I like to play with the capo at 1, 3, 5, or 6  "Tom, you're like 1 part a serious dork, and 2 parts the most awesome fucking guy ever." -  guitargeek.com style rig diagram Pics of my gear Virtual studio tech testing ground Last.FM |

| yea playing in Drop A is an idea. having a drop tuning and standard together. the thing that you will have to get around is that you cannot have all your favourite tunings in one guitar. you will most likely have to get a few guitars for that. |

 | I think it'll always be a stretch expecting one tuning to do everything to be honest. Besides, switching tunings can be a great way of getting yourself out of a rutt. ...And lets face it; capos just 'aint metal!
