Tabbing down a song...
Hi there!
I just started tabbing down "Agless, Still I am" from Morbid Angel by ear. I think most of you don't have the song, but hope you can help me out. So, I tabbed down the intro riff, I think it's ok. I started tabbing the verse part. Now that's the part that's totaly insane, Trey and Erik plays totaly different notes in different rhytm so I had a hard time but it's something like that. The problem is, that the to guitars are in the same key, but they sound pretty wierd as I said before, I wrote the riff in guitar pro and It sounded shit, but I don't know why, even If it's not 100% correct they are in the same key and I hear that they play something like that, so what's the problem? Maybe it's just guitarpro? These is the riff, their tuning is D# Code:
Guitar A: ---------------------------------------------------l-------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------l------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------l------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------l----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------3333----------2222----l------------------------------222--333--333---------- -0--0---3333333311110000------33111133---------l--0--0----3333333311110000----------------------- Guitar B --------------------------------------------------l-------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------l------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------l------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------l--------------------------------------------------------- -5--5---5555555533332222-3322------------------l--5--5----555555555-7777-8888-10101010-8888--------- --------------------------------333311111111----l-------------------------------------------------------- As as you can see they are in the same key, it's in H major.Thanks in advance! |

It's old-world for B. Or Bb, depending.
Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high, Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie, Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally. Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread Its branches like a Temple overhead. ~Charles Baudelaire http://www.myspace.com/impurity Brutal Skullfucking Death Metal |

That is most definitely not in B Major. I wouldn't bother attempting to put Morbid Angel songs in particular keys, as the tonality in most of their stuff is pretty ambiguous.

Incidentally, when you tune down a half-step, it's common practice to write the piece as if you were playing it in standard tuning, whilst adding a little disclaimer at the top saying that every note sounds a half-step lower than it's actually written, i.e. even though your new sixth string is actually Eb, you'd still call it and think of it as an E, just because it makes the mental processes easier. There should be a function in your tab programme that lets you do that... Oh, kudos to you for attempting this; tabbing an MA song is seriously ambitious! ![]() |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is far more common to see Modes in rock and metal than it is to see keys.

I tabbed a good portion of this for my site a while ago, but then I lost it.
Good luck with this one, maybe I'll start over again... |
