As of right now I have a fender strat (beginner model) and a 20W Crate amp.
I have been playing for like 2 years now, all self taught, and I am finally starting to sound halfway decent. I am playing a lot of Mettalica and such. My question is, I am looking to upgrade my guitar. I plan on playing stuff on the heavy side. What would be a good guitar to pick? I am not looking to spend like a grand, maybe around the 300-500 range. Thanks in advance. |

You might try a Jackson Dinky or Esp LTD guitar. They are relatively cheap and don't sound too bad. ESP actually makes a LTD edition of the Kirk Hammett model for under $500. Also keep in mind that if you are going to play heavy stuff, you will probably want to tune your guitar down eventually. In my opinion, I hate tuning a floyd rose down, so you might want to consider a string through or set bridge model guitar. Not sure if this will help you any, but I guess the best advice is to shop around and find a guitar that is comfortable to you.......Even though a $3000 Gibson might sound incredible, it may not be the right fit for you. Best of luck gixxer and keep shredding!

So far I've had an RG550, two RG7620s, an RG2020X, and I'm about to order an RGT3120. I still have the 550, and one 7620, but I never play the 550 anymore. It's just got too much sentimental value not to keep (had it forever, and signed by Joe Satriani). |

Since we're on a 7-string forum...
Have you tried a 7-string guitar yet? Ibanez makes some good ones. |
