First 7-String?

Hey everyone!
Proud to be a new member of this site

I've been trolling for a while, because I've been searching for opinions on An Ibanez RG7321. Seems to be a popular first 7-string guitar.

However, it seems to me that there are 2 options: Ibanez RG7321 and Schecter C-7.

I can't go over $600 (CAD) at all, so I'm assuming my options are very limited. I've noticed everyone harping on pickups, and that can be changed over time so it's not a worry.

Based on the criteria; Budget (600), Availability (NOT buying it online. At all.), and Quality, which is the best option?

Or, is there a better option?

I'm asking y'all for some help here, I'm just a clueless 7-string newbie

i would look at a 7421 also, its very similar but with higher quality parts and a different type of neck. They both look the same except the 7321 has white binding around the neck. And if it came down to either a 7321 or a c7, i would go with the 7321 because i think fixed bridges as more comfortable

They are both very different guitars, you would be best off trying each of them and deciding which one you like most.

Although I would strongly urge you to look at getting a used one online, it may work out cheaper, and you will get a much nicer guitar.

I'm totally with you on the fixed bridge. I have a S670PB and I HATE re-stringing it. One tremolo is enough lol.

I refuse to trust online. Especially used. Call it a phobia if you wish, but I hate trying used guitars, let alone buying them. Plus, I've had products break during shipping, and I've been ripped off before (false advertising, non-musical item) and so.. my experience online has been soured. Thats why I won't trust it :P

But is there another option?

Can someone suggest an alternative?

You should try a C-7 Blackjack, best bang for the buck I know if you like Schecter. In the Ibby range I'd try a S7320, very good guitar overall (crap pickups tho)

I'm actually looking at the 7321, as well as the Schecter Omen Extreme 7.
(New decision lol)

Any opinions on the O.E?

Again to that bridge-related point, it might be wise to steer clear of floating bridges for now. I don't know what your experience is with other guitars, but setting up a 7-string trem can be immensely frustrating if you're not too experienced with it (and sometimes even then).

To that end, the 7321 is a solid option that will introduce you to the school of slim Ibanez necks, if you weren't already familiar. Schecter's will almost invariably have more stocky neck profiles, and sometimes have painted necks as well.

Ideally, if you feel that you might struggle a bit in transitioning to a 7, it might help to find a guitar as close to your present 6-string as possible...

+1 on the 7421. However, the C7 has a TOM bridge. Only models with "FR" tacked on the end have floating bridges.

It's not any different from setting up a six string Floyd. Adjusting bridge height is simple, and I've never spent more than fifteen minutes to adjust spring tension.

True. When I switched from Ibanez to Schecter, my left hand got a real workout. Also, Schecter's bolt-on necks are unpainted, whereas the set-neck and neck-thru models have finished necks.

I remember hearing good things about the Omen Extreme, back when it was only offered in Europe. If you exclude shopping online as an option, you're severely limiting your choices, though, as most stores aren't going to carry a wide variety of sevens.
