New Bass for $1,500 AUD?

Hey Guys,

In a month or so I'll be investing in a bass guitar. 5 string, tuned roughly around the A or G range. I mainly need it for tracking basslines to the stuff I'm writing.

My budget will be about the $1,500 (Aussie Dollars) mark. Today I played a few basses at the music store I buy all my gear from.

Spectors don't really float my boat, a 5 string Fender P bass would be my ultimate, but keeping in mind this bass isn't really gonna ever see a stage, I just need a simple good sound for the price.

I tried a few Schector basses, I like the way the play for the money. Used to have an Ibanez EDB605 back in the day.

Any suggestions on other things I should try for about the $1,500 mark?

Never fuck with a man's guitar, woman or ride. Such is the rule of Rock...

I don't really have a suggestion for a guitar, but I have another tip. Consider buying from the US, the Aussie dollar is doing EXTREMELY well and you can buy guitars from there for almost half the price of what they are here. And 1500 would get you a fucking nice bass from the US!

I don't play bass but the Ibanez 5 strings seem like good value ranging in price from very cheap to under your figure for a prestige, buy from the US you will get ripped in Australia
there is a cheap one finishing in about an hour, you might be able to win it for less than $350 AUD delivered, it's at $308 AUD delivered ATM.

Also if you find one in the US that will does not specify whether it will ship to Australia I've found that all you need to do in most cases is ask nicely and they will but if they will not there's always this Price USA | Shop where you want

FOR SALE
RG2127
RG7EXFX2
Pod X3 Live
Boss MT-2
Possibly my RG2027

If you have a CST to sell now is the time because I am possibly about to be very broke for a long time

Does that include import duties?

To work out how much customs will be,

Less than $1000 costs nothing.

For items over $1000

Price of item multiplied by 0.05 = y

Import charges are (price of item + y + shipping charges) multiplied by 0.1 + y

To work out how much the total price will be all inclusive

Price of item multiplied by 1.05 = y

Total = (y + shipping charges) multiplied by 1.1

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Again but properly

Let Purchase Price be P
Let Shipping be S
Customs is equal to 5% of P
Let customs be C
GST = 10% of total

Therefore

Import Duties = GST*((C*P)+P+S) + (C*P) = 0.1(1.05P+S)+0.05P

All inclusive Price = 1.1(1.05P+S)

Sorry about the original post I posted quickly without thinking

Yeah, I actually didn't take a few things into account. I've emailed the company asking them what the absolute final cost would be, even telling them the weight & lengths.

I think I'm going to end up buying either a Schecter Stilleto Custom 5 or the Fender.

Will post back with final costs...
